Hamburgers

The hamburger is a round bun with a minced meat patty within garnished with some vegetable and sauce that can be easily enjoyed in one hand, readily available and tastily satisfying, the foremost icon of modern fast food. Literally, the term “Hamburger” refers to a snack delight that was originally from Hamburg, the second-largest city in Germany. It is a coastal city where fishermen used to sell fish in the morning market and eat bread with sandwiched pickled fish fillet, which is said to be the earliest fish burger as well as the forefather of the present Hamburger. In fact, those early pioneers from their hometown Hamburg emigrated to the New World and brought with them this casual and simple meal with fish or meat sandwiched in two pieces of bread. However, many people have claimed credit for inventing the Hamburger, including Louis Larsen, a Danish immigrant and owner of Louis' Lunch in New Haven, Connecticut,1901. Despite much debate, one thing is sure, its popularization started after the St. Louis World’s Fair 1904, as reported in the New York Tribune: A sidewalk vendor’s invention is making waves in America and may soon conquer the world. Today, Hamburgers are sold all over the world with styles as diverse as beef, pork, lamb, and chicken. Besides, there are healthy ones without meat, such as those that come with Portobello mushroom and other kinds of vegetable. The Hamburger has taught us something about the infinite possibilities between two pieces of bread – where there is a will, there is a Hamburger that meets your fancy.
