Sixth Eco Expo Asia Opens with Mainland Focus
Free Electric Vehicle Rides, Eco-Asia Conference Among Fair Highlights

26 October 2011 – The Chinese mainland’s booming environmental protection market is a major focus of Eco Expo Asia, the International Trade Fair on Environmental Protection, which opened today and runs until 29 October at AsiaWorld-Expo.

The State Council’s recent 12th Five-Year Plan includes an emphasis on energy-saving and environmental protection, alternative energy, new materials, and alternative-fuel cars. The opportunities promised by the massive environmental investment on the mainland, and throughout Asia, have attracted more than 260 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions to the fair. More than 140 buying missions representing over 3,700 buyers are participating in the expo.

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, and co-organised by the Environment Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, the sixth edition of Eco Expo Asia features a “Green Tech for a Low-carbon Economy” theme.

Six Zones
Environmental protection innovations are showcased in six thematic zones: Energy Efficiency & Energy; Waste Management & Recycling; Eco-friendly Products; Green Building Solutions & Services; Green Transportation; and Testing, Inspection & Certification.

Eco-Asia Conference
Other highlights include the three-day Bank of China (Hong Kong) Eco Asia Conference, which focuses on key industry topics. These include eco opportunities and challenges in the mainland’s 12th Five-year Plan, green-tech transfer and business opportunities, waste management and recycling, clean energy and energy efficiency, as well as green building. The mainland’s Jia Xia Ping, Deputy Director, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People’s Republic of China, and Malcom Jackson, Assistant Administrator for the Office of Environmental Information and Chief Information Officer, US Environmental Protection Agency, deliver keynote speeches at the conference.

New this year, exchange forums, designed to make it easier for buyers to meet suppliers, focus on waste management and recycling (27 October) and green building (28 October). A special forum, “New Trends on Eco Testing, Inspection and Certification Services” (28 October), features speakers from SGS Hong Kong, the British Standards Institution and the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification. Setting up a group pavilion for the first time, the Water Pollution Control Committee of China Environmental Protection Industry Association is organising a meeting (27 October) on practical water pollution controls on the mainland.

Test Rides on Public Day
The expo’s last day, open to the public, features test rides of the BYD eBus-12 and the Tesla Roadster, a high-performance electric sports car. Seats are limited; please register at www.ecoexpoasia.com. Open forums focusing on new energy, the green office and global warming are also being held.

Bamboo Promenade
The special Bamboo Promenade entrance, sponsored by the HSBC and the Airport Authority Hong Kong, was designed by the Hong Kong Design Institute and the Vocational Training Council, with the support of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries. The bamboo will be planted at the Hong Kong International Airport after the fair.

Sports Source Asia and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair, 27-29 October, take place alongside Eco Expo Asia.
