Press Release
Buy Quality Products in Small Quantity – New Small Order Zone at HKTDC fairs and www.hktdc.com
Nowadays, more and more e-retailers and shop retailers turn to place order with smaller quantity. This shift of buying pattern, the growing number of online shops and the shorter product life cycle lead to a high demand of small order suppliers. As such, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) launches a "Small Order Zone" at selected HKTDC fairs and www.hktdc.com, to open up new business opportunities for buyers and sellers alike.
A HKTDC research on buyers’ buying pattern conducted last October showed that more and more buyers are involved in small order sourcing. Around 50% of buyers are buying in small quantity from 100 to 1,000 pieces per order. In terms of year-round sourcing, more than 60% of interviewed buyers make 11 to 50% small-lot orders in their overall sourcing each year.
Buyers from around the world highlight the importance of small order trading. A buyer from the USA, Sam Niamian of High Secret, said, “I want variety and new models every season, buying in small quantity can better control inventory. If I have a large stock and the season passed, I have to bring the old models out again next season, which might hurt sales.” Casey Cantwell of Van Roli Ltd from New Zealand also said, “there are small order buyers here and there. They are looking for new products and want to buy small quantity first.”
Buyers from emerging markets also show interest in buying small order. Joanna Sikorska, Senior Fashion Buyer of LPP S.A. from Poland said, “In view of the uncertainties of economic situation in the next season, I would rather buy in small order quantity.”
The “Small Order Zone” houses a collection of trust-worthy and reliable suppliers authenticated by third parties, with a line-up of high quality products in small order quantity (50 – 1,000pcs) on offer, from electronics, houseware to gifts. To facilitate buyers to source suppliers, price and minimum order quantity information are readily available to interested buyers for comparison.
The “Small Order Zone” will make the appearance in April and October at selected trade fairs, including HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) (13-16 April), Hong Kong Houseware Fair (20-23 April), Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair (27-30 April) and Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) (13-16 October). In this brand new zone, products will be highlighted in a series of showcases at the Expo Drive Entrance, enabling buyers to see the product samples and make small order. A line-up of hundreds of products from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan will be unveiled at the 4 trade fairs.
More than that, buyers can also find the “Small Order Zone” at HKTDC online portal (www.hktdc.com) without time and geographical constraints. Now, buyers can visit http://small-order.hktdc.com to view an extensive collection of products available in small order quantity at buyers’ convenience.
A number of incentives are now offered to encourage buyers to use the new platforms. At the 3 selected trade fairs in April, buyers making enquiries about 5 or more products are entitled to enter a lucky draw and win an iPad2 and other fabulous gifts. On the online platform – www.hktdc.com, buyers making enquiries about 3 or more products will earn double points for their Buyers Rewards Programme and get a chance to win an iPad2.
