Exhibitors' Comments
  1. Our company is just 18 months old, but my partner and I have been in the jewellery business for around eight years. We specialise in large, fine and rare coloured stones, such as spinels, garnets and tourmalines. We spend a lot of time in the field, carrying out research and visiting mines. Our customers are high-end jewellers and collectors, mainly based in the US and Europe; however, we want to move into Asia and this is why we are attending this show for the first time. Here we can meet buyers from across the region. We are particularly keen to develop the Chinese mainland market, but we have talked with buyers from Japan, Singapore and Taiwan as well. There are also buyers from Europe and the US here, so we take the opportunity to connect with them, too. I have to emphasise that our stones are of a very high quality and part of our mission here is to educate buyers in this end of the market, so we look at our presence here as part of a long-term strategy. This is a good fair – one reason being that Hong Kong is a great place to do business. As it is a free market, there is no problem with importing and exporting gemstones.
Jean Baptiste Senoble, Gem Dealer, Senoble & Bryl S.A., Switzerland
  2. We are a family-owned diamond and jewellery company, with headquarters in Tel Aviv and a branch in Hong Kong for the past 15 years. Starting as a diamond cutter, we moved into jewellery in 2000, and we carry out R&D and design in-house. We work closely with retail partners to help them upgrade their offering, and we pay real attention to the needs of the end-users in their particular markets. We have been exhibiting here for 10 years; through this event we maintain a visible presence in the market, look for new customers and also meet our regular clients – it certainly helps to boost sales. This year we are seeing more visitors from India – this market seems to be very active; also from Eastern Europe, Turkey and Thailand as well as the Chinese mainland. After this fair we will be able to gauge the direction of the market this year – from what I have seen so far here I am optimistic that there is strong demand in the market. We enjoy good service at this fair – it is well organised and a lot of work goes on behind the scenes before the event.
Kobi Itzchaki, Managing Director, Dalumi Hong Kong Limited, Hong Kong
  3. Israel is one of the world’s leading centres for the manufacture and trade in polished diamonds and a major hub for trade in rough diamonds. IDI’s main objective is to promote the Israeli diamond industry through participation in shows and other activities as well as research into new markets. We have 70 companies exhibiting under the IDI umbrella and another 30 Israeli companies showing independently here. The US remains our biggest market, with almost 40% share, but the markets of India and the Chinese mainland are becoming increasingly important. We see Hong Kong as the main gateway to the mainland. This show attracts good buyers. HKTDC is a great organisation – staff respond quickly to enquiries, for example, and we are also impressed with the emphasis on new technology. We are very satisfied; in fact, we feel like we are a partner with HKTDC
Nissim Palomo, CMO, Israel Diamond Institute, Israel
  4. GIA has been in Hong Kong since 1994 and we’ve been attending this show since 1995. In 2010 we began offering on-site services to exhibitors and visitors. We also utilise the fair to promote our various educational programmes. Our services have been well received and many buyers have availed themselves of our testing already this year, especially those from the region. In fact, we received a lot of coloured stones for testing before the fair, with buyers coming to pick them up early on the first morning. This is a good fair because Hong Kong is a centre for gem trading and visitors come from all over the world, but particularly from the Chinese mainland. We’ve also noticed a lot of buyers from Russia this year. The timing of this particular show is good because it occurs before the shows in Europe. The organisers do a great job – we appreciate how all the lab services providers are grouped together in the centre, so it is easy for all exhibitors and buyers to locate us.
Seung-Haw Moon, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, GIA Hong Kong, Hong Kong
  5. We’ve been attending this show for the past five years. Our company was founded in 1999; we operate three factories in India, handling everything from rough to polished diamonds and fine jewellery targeting all sectors of the market. Our major customer base is in the US, along with Australia and the Middle East and some in Europe. We use this fair to a great extent to introduce our new designs to our regular customers, some of whom we first encountered at this show. We can also find new buyers – for example, we have seen quite a few visitors from Russia, and we would like to expand there. The service and facilities at this event are good. It attracts many customers from all over the globe – it is a hub of the industry.
Sachin Gurav, Business Development Manager, Patdiam Jewellery Pvt Ltd., India
  6. We were established about 30 years ago, and have a presence in London’s New Bond Street and in Monaco. We specialise in antique and estate jewellery – what we call ‘underrated art forms’. Every single piece we sell is unique and our clients are collectors from all over the world who appreciate this type of item. This is our first time at this fair, but we have done business in Hong Kong before and have always been very successful. We have already sold a number of pieces even on the first day of the fair. We’ve seen a lot of customers from mainland China. The show is very well organized and we hope to return next year.
    Tracey Zebrak, Owner, Zebrak, UK
  7. Being the trend-setter in the fine jewellery industry, we have developed our own designs under different brands to meet the tastes and consumption levels of our customers. The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show is always a perfect venue for our product launch. This year, we have launched a new collection under the Gemtique brand using silver as the base and decorated with 18k gold, Swarovski’s coloured gemstones and diamonds. The designs take inspiration from five elements of the Mother Nature including sun, earth, flowers, animals and ocean. This collection appeals to customers looking for luxurious yet affordable jewellery, especially in times of economic downturn. Our latest designs have attracted lots of buyers to visit our booth and keep us busy all day. The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show is getting more mature each year. It has become an important jewellery show that buyers cannot afford to miss, and it is a marketplace where buyers place their orders after seeing various jewellery shows in the world.
Aaron Shum, President, Aaron Shum Jewelry Limited, Hong Kong
  8. We produce all kinds of fine jewellery according to customers’ requirements and export mainly to European countries such as Germany, Italy and Finland. We are also a retailer that sells our silver jewellery under the Crossfor brand in more than 20 outlets in Japan. This is our third time to take part in this show – it gives us a good opportunity to let more buyers know about our products. This year, we are promoting our Swing diamond jewellery which is made by our patented twinkle-setting technology. We’ve met buyers coming from large companies in the US and Europe. Many buyers have shown interests in our Swing diamond jewellery. We’ve received orders here. The management and services are very good.”
Gloria Au, Senior Sales Executive, Crossfor Co., Ltd., Japan
  9. We are an exporter of certified loose diamonds with Southeast Asia as our major markets. We have been participating in the show since 1991. It’s good to join the show every year to meet both new and old clients at one place as they all come to the show and also to see how the market is performing. We hope to expand our business into new markets especially the Chinese mainland, Russia and Brazil. So far, we’ve met lots of clients from our target markets. Also, we are happy to see that buyers are positive on the market and business atmosphere has been quite good this year. The show itself is well-organised with good service and management. HKTDC staff is very cooperative. We hope that the show can be expanded to meet our needs for more exhibition space.
Pankaj Khunt, Managing Director, Karp Jewellery Mfg HK Limited, Hong Kong

Buyers' Comments
  1. I’ve been attending this event for many years – first with my Australian business and now with my Philippines company that specialises in crystals. Hong Kong is a logical place to come as the focus of jewellery manufacturing has shifted eastwards to China. I used to source directly from Brazil, but now all the Brazilians are sending their materials to the mainland for manufacture. Here at the fair you can find all the suppliers under one roof, so it is easier than visiting individual factories. I can buy smaller orders on the spot here, while I can also place larger orders for later delivery. I can find everything I want at this show, and there are no worries as far as the organisation is concerned.
Kenneth H. Meyers, President, Mountain Province Gems & Minerals Inc., Philippines
  2. We are a manufacturer of fine jewellery, supplying retailers in Canada and the US. We’ve been attending this fair for about 20 years. Here we can pick up on what is happening in the industry, and that is very important. This year we’ve noticed a lot of geometrics and mixing of colours of stones and metals – there is a lot of yellow and black combinations, for example. We’re looking to source stones and pearls in particular and this show offers a huge range. We can find new suppliers here as well as meeting with our existing ones. The facilities at this show are gorgeous.
Leslie Therriault, Merchandiser, Delmar International, Canada
  3. This is my second visit to this show – I am an importer and wholesaler of cufflinks and bridal jewellery bssed in Hungary. At this event you can meet many suppliers all concentrated in one place and you can see the new trends in the business. I’ve already found several interesting items and I also note that micro setting seems to be a big direction this year. As well as searching for new suppliers and new designs I take the opportunity to check on my existing suppliers. Coming here to Hong Kong is also convenient because I can undertake factory visits in the Chinese mainland, too. It’s great show!
Gyula Tamas, Managing Director, Stafford Trading and Consulting Co. Ltd., Hungary
  4. We have 18 stores in Quebec, selling low- to medium-end costume jewellery, silver, gold and diamond jewellery. My last visit was ten years ago. I came back this year and was excited to see that the show is very big now. I am looking for new suppliers of silver and stainless steel jewellery. There are so many new designs at the show. I have been in touch with new suppliers that can supply quality products and have already placed orders worth US$52,000. The show is well-organised and professional. I’ll visit the show next year.
Edouard Sebag, President, Edouard Sebag Enterprises, Canada
  5. We are a Spanish-based jewellery manufacturer and retailer, operating eight stores in six cities in Spain. Presently, our stores are selling high-end jewellery under our own brand and famous brand watches. In view of the current market situation, we have decided to develop a second brand for low-end jewellery particularly fancy jewellery. That’s why I came to this show to look for suppliers. I’ve already developed a list of suppliers and I hope to start our long-term relationships with them. I am going to place orders worth around €50,000 at the show. The show is huge. I am very happy with the services here as the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Karlos Perez Dorao, President, Perodri Joyeros, S.L., Spain
  6. We are selling 18k gold Egyptian-style jewellery to tourists in Egypt. Due to changes in external economic environment, we’ll expand into the local consumer market. In the past, we bought jewellery from local wholesalers, but now we want to source directly from manufacturers. I came to the show to look for low-end silver jewellery for Egyptian consumers because they are more willing to buy this kind of jewellery. The show offers me a one-stop platform to source stylishly-designed jewellery at competitive prices. I’ll place trial orders worth around USD10,000 from 20 to 30 suppliers here to test the market.
Samih Mamdouh, Manager, Gouzlan Jewellery, Egypt
  7. We are a Brazilian-based manufacturer and exporter of gemstones and 18k gold jewellery, supplying retailers all over the world. I visited the show for the first time, hoping to make connections with gemstones and pearls suppliers and also to know more about how the market here is and how the Chinese manufacturers work with the materials as they are very strong in jewellery manufacturing. I am particularly looking for gemstones, diamonds and pearls for my jewellery production. Actually, the gemstones that we’re using are extracted from Brazil, but our suppliers are all based in Hong Kong, so I can see lots of samples at this show. I’ve also found pearl suppliers in Hong Kong. I am going to bring samples back to Brazil and will confirm orders later. My first orders will be around US$11,000 worth of pearls and US$20,000-25,000 worth of rough gemstones. I am very satisfied with the show.
Donato Vianna, Sales Manager, Vianna Brasil, Brazil
  8. We are a jewellery wholesaler supplying all kinds of fine jewellery to 10,000 shops operated by more than 2500 companies in Russia and its neighbouring countries. It is my first time visiting the show. It’s the largest jewellery show I’ve ever visited. It is a big and nice show with so many suppliers all under one roof. I came here to source silver, cubic zirconia, gold and diamond jewellery. I’ve already met some good suppliers from Hong Kong and Thailand on the first day of the show. And I am going to place US$1-2 million worth of orders here.
Konstantin Zakirov, Director General, National Heritage, Russia
  9. In the past, our company was a jewellery manufacturer, but we stopped our jewellery production seven years ago and started to engage in the trading of precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium. This is my first time here. I am particularly looking for 3D jewellery printers in a bid to grow our model-making business. I’ve planned to buy a 3D jewellery printer which costs about US$45,000. I’ve also bought some pearls and will see if I can develop the pearl market in Rumania. My total orders here will be more than US$50,000. The Hong Kong International Jewellery show is one of the best shows in the world and it is very impressive.
Rusz J. Gyorgy, Owner & CEO, Rexo Metals, Romania
