Showcase Your Brand to the World

To succeed in today’s competitive world – especially the fast-paced fashion business – you need to forge effective partnerships. HKTDC World Boutique, Hong Kong provides brands and designers with a platform to showcase their image, capabilities and products in a sophisticated, elegant and professional environment. And its Hong Kong location acts as the perfect springboard for brands seeking to establish a foothold in the growing Asian markets, especially the Chinese mainland.

Magnet for Decision Makers

The 2012 edition of the show attracted over 400 brands, which were able to connect with the 13,000-plus buyers from 77 countries and regions who came through the doors of the four-day event. It’s not just the quantity of buyers that counts, however, but the high calibre, too – and here, World Boutique also scores highly. Buyers are from the upper end of the market, including department stores and independent boutiques, and are primarily looking for fresh ideas, quality workmanship and strong brand image. Through its global network of offices, HKTDC brings key buyers, particularly youthful, up-and-coming companies, from both developed and emerging markets, to the show.

International Extravaganza

Adding to the creativity of the event is Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza – World Boutique’s grand show. It showcases internationally acclaimed designers and underlines Hong Kong’s status as an international trend-setter; the 2012 representatives were Hidy Ng from Hong Kong, Risto Bimbiloski from Paris, Craig Lawrence from London and Qi Gang from Shanghai.

Talent Spotting

Another unmissable highlight is the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest. This is a stage for emerging local design talent, who compete for honours in a variety of categories in front of a distinguished panel of judges. The VIP judge for 2012 was renowned international designer Atsuro Tayama.

Dynamic Showcase

World Boutique incorporates a range of fashion shows and parades featuring designers and brands from around the world. These provide buyers with inspiration and a good direction to the trends for coming seasons.

Into the Future

Also adding value to the show is the programme of seminars presented by international trend forecasters. These are always extremely well attended and provide exhibitors, buyers and others in the fashion industry with directions on upcoming themes, colours, fabrics and moods.

Two In One

World Boutique is held concurrently with the HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter. This long-established event is the largest of its kind in Asia and provides World Boutique visitors with additional sourcing channels, all under one roof.

Exhibitors’ Comments

“This year the fair has been very good to us – lots of meetings. We have a good, established relationship with the HKTDC going back around eight years and we have fixed appointments and meetings and our regular customers keep coming back. We’ve increased our booth size by about 20% this year. Sales are good – a few hundred thousand dollars – about the same as last year for us. From the show our main markets are in the region – Chinese mainland, Japan and Korea. The fair is also a great chance for us to meet our distributors so we don’t have to travel around the region.”
Siddharth Kumar, Managing Director, Pashma, India

“I set up as a designer in my native Australia two years ago, but recently made the decision to move to Hong Kong, where my factory is located as I use a lot of innovative technology and I wanted to be closer to the production. My style is classic, comfortable cashmere pieces. This is my first time to exhibit here; as well as a booth I also showed pieces in one of the fashion shows and that was a great way as a newcomer to make some excellent contacts in the business in Hong Kong, such as models and people staging the event. I’ve already taken an order for wraps from a Kuwait buyer, and have also met a lot of buyers from Korea and Taiwan, among others – the next few weeks are going to be very busy as I follow up on all these contacts.”
Rebecca McGeoch, Australian Designer

“We are a family business making hand-stitched shoes in Italy since 1905. However, in 2006 we updated our concept by combining velvet with the leather to create a trendy, cool collection. We already have a customer base in the US and Japan as well as Europe, and now we want to get into the Chinese mainland, which is the reason we joined World Boutique, Hong Kong. This show is a good platform for establishing a link between our concept and potential partners in the mainland. We’ve had good talks with buyers who are very interested in our shoes and we see the opportunity for business in the future.”
Amedeo Moretti, Owner, Alberto Moretti Arfango, Italy

"We are a Lebanese company with production facilities and showroom in the Chinese mainland. All our designs are our own. Here we can meet buyers who don't normally travel into the Chinese mainland. Our existing customer - many of whom we first made contact with at this show - come to see our new designs here, but of course we are also looking for new buyers. We are keen to expand in East Asia and South America; but this year we have been pleasantly surprised to get interest from buyers from countreis that one would not associate with the evening wear market such as Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. We've also met potential customers from the Middle East and North America.”
Mohamad M. Itani, Managing Director, Modessa (HK) Ltd, Hong Kong

Buyers’ Comments

“I own a wholesale business specialising in young contemporary womenswear in Los Angeles. I am here to see new trends, styles and colours - and so far, so good! There is a big variety of fahsions here, and there are definitely some unique items to be seen. I’ve spotted jackets, sweaters and dresses in particular that interest me. I am hopeful that I will place orders before I complete my visit. I'm very impressed with World Boutique, Hong Kong - it is well organised and it is a nice environment.”
Vinod Manwani, Owner, Ramona's Fashion, US

“My company brings high fashion into India - evening, cocktail, party and special occasion dresses. I have been attending World Boutique, Hong Kong since it started. It is very good for me because there are many exhibitors in this hall that are showing evening and party wear, so there is a very big selection for me to choose from. I expect that I will place orders worth around US$100,000. I've been particularly impressed with the designs of Cecilia Yau and Butoni this time. I think this is a good show and I am satisfied with the organisation.”
Shiv Kumar, managing Director, ND Export, India
