DOE Meeting Will Consider New Energy Test Procedures for Microwave Ovens
|
The Department of Energy will hold a public meeting on 16 September to discuss and receive comments on the development of new active mode test procedures for microwave ovens. The DOE rescinded effective 22 July the existing active mode test procedures for microwaves because they do not produce accurate and repeatable test results and the department is unaware of any other test procedures that could be used instead. The DOE is also proposing to adopt and will seek input at the meeting on new definitions of energy use modes based on the relevant provisions from the IEC Standard 62301, Household Electrical Appliances – Measurement of Standby Power, as well as language to clarify the application of these provisions for measuring standby mode and off mode power consumption in microwave ovens. Interested parties may also submit comments on these new definitions and language by 4 October.
