Shenzhen aims to produce more brands. |
Shenzhen ranks among the top Chinese cities for garment production, in terms of the numbers of brand names and enterprises, as well as output value.
It has a well co-ordinated industrial system and enjoys the advantages of industrial clustering. Its products are selling well both at home and abroad. Shenzhen designer labels regularly appear in international fashion gatherings.
While working hard to expand domestic and overseas markets, Shenzhen has also tried to develop its business platform.
The apparel industry "cluster" being built in the city's Bao'an District has successfully attracted top garment brands like Marisfrolg, Ellassay and Kaltendin; it's one of the fastest-growing industrial centres among Shenzhen's nine major parks.
Its four functional zones include an industrial zone and a home to garment enterprises such as Marisfrolg, Versino and Kaltendin.
Zone B is the commercial amenities zone and will be able to provide catering, accommodation, entertainment and other consumer facilities for over 100,000 people.
As for Zone C, it's the headquarters or "economy zone" to house a garment R&D centre, a fashion college, an SME incubator and other facilities.
The final zone - Zone D - is the ecological tourism centre where a 2 sq km urban country park is to be built with an investment of Rmb100 million. This modern garment design, R&D and manufacturing base should be able to meet production, tutoring, research, business and trade management needs.
Shenzhen's garment industry concentrated on innovation last year in a bid to accelerate its industrial restructuring. As a result, the number of first-line brands has steadily increased.
There are currently over 2,500 garment enterprises in the city, employing 350,000 people and producing goods under more than 800 brands. Export values are worth about US$10 billion.
The Shenzhen Garment Industry Association organised a trade delegation to the UK, Italy and France last year and hosted the Fashion Shenzhen show in those countries.
The association promotes the Shenzhen garment industry's integration with international fashion trends and provides garment professionals and fashion designers with opportunities to showcase their work. Of course, this also burnishes Shenzhen’s international status in the fashion world.
The association works closely with its counterparts in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Harbin and other Chinese cities to promote Shenzhen's garment brands both at home and abroad.
