Introduction
The Beijing Badaling Economic Development Zone (Beijing Badaling EDZ) was set up in 1992 at the foot of the Badaling Great Wall in the Yanqing County in Beijing, the capital city of China, and the second-largest city in China in terms of GDP in 2007. It covers a designated area of 4.8 km2. In 2000, it was approved to be municipality-level development zone by the Beijing Municipal Government.
The zone enjoys convenient traffic systems. Beijing Capital International Airport was ranked the largest airport in terms of passenger throughput in 2007 and the second-largest airport in terms of cargo traffic in 2007. Tianjin Port, the fourth-largest port in China, handled 309 million tons of cargos and 7.1 million TEUs respectively in 2007. The zone is adjacent to Beijing-Yinchuan Highway to the south and Kangzhuang Railway Cargo Distribution Center to the west, and the Beijing-Baotou Railway goes through the zone.
Beijing is one of China's major educational hubs. There are eighty-three universities and colleges in Beijing, and in 2007, the number of graduates reached 139,000. The prominent universities in Beijing include Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Central University of Finance and Economics.
