Introduction Beijing Daxing Economic Development Zone (Beijing Daxing EDZ), formerly Beijing Daxing Industrial Zone, was established in 1992. It won approval from the Beijing municipal government to be a municipal-level development zone in 2000 and has an area of 4.2 sq km. The zone is located in Daxing District in the southeastern part of Beijing.

Daxing EDZ is within half an hour’s drive of the city center of Beijing. The zone is adjacent to the Beijing-Kaifeng Highway and Beijing-Shijiazhuang Highway.

It takes merely 40 minutes to drive from Beijing Daxing EDZ to Beijing Capital International Airport. Tianjin Port is within a 90-minute drive of the zone. Beijing Daxing EDZ is merely 1.5 km from Huangcun Railway Distribution Center, which handle 14 million tons of cargo per year.

In 2010, Beijing Airport’s passenger throughput reached 73.9 million, ranking first in China, and second in the world. The airport offers flights to 96 domestic cities and 91 overseas cities.

Tianjin Port is the main passageway for cargo from Beijing and North and Northwest China entering the Bohai Sea. In 2010, the port’s cargo throughput reached 400 million tons, ranking third in China after Shanghai and Ningbo.

Beijing is now the largest educational center in China. By the end of 2008, there were 89 universities and colleges in Beijing, with a total enrollment of 578,000. The nation’s most well-known universities are located in Beijing. They include Peking University and Tsinghua University, dubbed China’s Harvard and MIT, respectively.
Investment Climate Beijing Daxing EDZ encourages investment in the machinery, electronics and garments industries. Nearly 650 firms had set up in the zone by the end of 2008. In 2008, their total revenue reached RMB 5.8 billion.

Major investors in the zone include Vicutu, Beijing Shougang Severa, Tengshi Garments, Renming Electronic Appliances, Bode Transportation, Kangsen Machinery, Gong Yi Fu, Jie Ao and China Railway (Group) Materials.

Beijing Shougang Savera Elevator Guide Rail Co Ltd was jointly set up in 1999 by Spain-based Savera and Shougang Group, one of the leading steelmakers in China. The firm manufactures and distributes elevator systems and provides related services. Its main customers include OTIS, ThyssenKrupp, Hitachi and Panasonic.
