Introduction
 

Yulin is located in the southeast part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, bordering Guangdong Province. It covers an area of 12,839 sq km. Its population is 5.7 million.

Yulin has a typical subtropical monsoon climate with plenty of rain. The average annual temperature is 21-21.9°C, while the average annual precipitation is 1700 mm.

Yulin is an important production base for grain, fruit and livestock in Guangxi. It is widely praised as a good source for lychee and longan fruit and for Sanhuang chickens. 

Yulin is near Nanning, Beihai, Wuzhou, Liuzhou and Guigang. The transportation around the city mainly relies on highways and railways. The State Highway 324, the Nanning-Wuzhou Expressway, and the Litang-Zhanjiang Railway run through the city.

 
Economic Features
 
Yulin realized GDP of RMB 68.2 billion in 2009, representing a rise of 14.8% year on year. The city's GDP accounted for approximately 8.9% of Guangxi's total and ranked fourth in the autonomous region.

The agricultural sector generated value-added output of RMB 15,2 billion in 2009, accounting for 22.4% of the city's GDP, while secondary industry (industry and construction) realized value-added output of RMB 27.7 billion, accounting for 40.6% of the city's total.

Yulin is an important national and provincial production base for internal combustion engines, daily use ceramics, construction materials, leather garments and food processing.

Yucai Group, the most famous enterprise based in Yulin, is the largest independent production base of diesel engines in China and the largest manufacturer and exporter of medium-and small-sized construction machinery in China.

Transportation equipment manufacturing and agricultural products processing are the pillar industries of the city. In 2007, these industries realized value-added industrial output of RMB 3.8 billion and RMB 110 million, up 35.9% and 37% year on year, respectively. The value-added industrial output from transportation equipment manufacturing contributed 25.7% to the city’s total.

The service sector contributed 37% of the city's total GDP in 2009. During 2009, 6.1 million tourists visited the city, 14.9% more than in the previous year, and tourism income totaled RMB 3.7 billion, increasing 30.9% compared to the previous year.

In 2009, the total value of imports and exports amounted to US$354 million (comprising export value of US$217 million and import value of US$138million), dowm 19.9% year on year. The major trading goods of the city are mechanical and electrical products, canned pineapple, and porcelain tableware. The E.U., Hong Kong, the U.S. and Japan are Yulin’s major trading partners.

In 2008, Yulin utilized FDI of US$22.6 million, sinking 44.2% year on year.
 
Cultural Highlights
 

Yulin is a city with over two thousand years of history and culture. Since ancient times, Yulin has been important for trade and communications between Central China and South China. Beginning in the Qin Dynasty, Yulin was under the administration of Guilin Shire, and in the following thousands of years, it was administrated as a county. In 1983, Yulin was officially designated a prefecture-level city.

 
Tourist Attraction
 

Yulin is rich in tourism resources. It was praised as the Natural Southland Garden and Top Tourist City in China. It has approximately 120 places of historic interest and scenic beauty, including Darong Mountain National Forest Park, Zhenwu Pavilion, and Yuntian Cultural City. 
Yulin’s Sanhuang chicken, known as high quality, delicious and nutritious, is famous both at home and abroad. In addition, tropical fruits such as longan and lychee are also worthy foods for tourists to taste in the city.
