Introduction
 

Fangchenggang is located in the south part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, adjacent to Beibuwan Bay, and borders Vietnam to the west. It covers an area of 6,173 sq km. Its population is 0.85 million.

Fangchenggang has a southern subtropical monsoon climate with plenty of sunshine and rain. The average temperature is 22.5°C, while the average annual precipitation is 3,465 mm.

Fangchenggang is the most important gateway from Guangxi Autonomous Region to Southeast Asia. Transportation in Fangchenggang mainly relies on railways, highways and waterways. The Fangchenggang-Nanning Railway and the Qinzhou-Fangchenggang Expressway extend to cities such as Nanning, Qinzhou, Guilin, and Beihai. The Fangcheng Deep Water Port, the largest in Guangxi, currently has 35 berths. Among them, 21 are ten-thousand-ton deep-water berths.
 
Economic Features
 
Fangchenggang realized GDP of RMB 31.95 billion in 2010, representing a rise of 17.8% year on year. The city's GDP accounted for approximately 4% of Guangxi's total and ranked 14th in the autonomous region.

The agricultural sector generated value-added output of RMB 4.78 billion in 2010, accounting for 15% of the city's GDP. Secondary industry (industry and construction), the largest contributor to the city's economy, realized value-added output of RMB 16.49 billion, accounting for 51.6% of the city's total.

Manufacturing of edible vegetable oil, sugar, steel, food and phosphoric acid are the city's pillar industries. They realized industrial output of RMB 6.4 billion, contributing 65% to the city's total from enterprises with designated size and above.

The service sector generated value-added output of RMB 10.68 billion, contributing 33.4% to the city's total GDP in 2010. During 2010, 5.57 million tourists visited the city, 31.5% higher than the figure in the previous year, while tourism income totaled RMB 2.9 billion, increasing 61.3% compared to the previous year.

Dongxing, under the jurisdiction of Fangchenggang, is an important border city and trading port taking advantage of its favorable geographical location as the only port linking China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by both land and water.

In 2010, the total value of imports and exports amounted to US$2.8 billion (comprising export value of US$780 million exportation and import value of US$2.02 billion), up 29.1% year on year. The city's major trading goods are yellow soybeans, mechanical equipment and bariteits. The nations of the ASEAN, Brazil, Argentina and the U.S. are the major trading partners of Fangchenggang.
 
Cultural Highlights
 

As early as in the Neolithic Age, human beings have lived in this area. The name  "Fangcheng" first appeared in during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

Fangchenggang is a multi-ethnic living area and home to 21 ethnic groups such as the Han, the Zhuang, the Yao, the Jing, and the Miao. Minority groups account for 48% of the total population.
 
Tourist Attraction
 

Fangchenggang attracts visitors with its extremely beautiful subtropical and bay scenery as well as its convenient location for visiting Vietnam. Famous scenery spots include Volcano Island, Jiangshan Peninsula, Golden Camellia Reserve, Jingdao Holiday Resort, Shiwan Dashan National Forest Park, Ho Chi Minh Path and Dongxing Port.

Pearls, golden camellia, aniseed and cinnamon are the special local products that may interest tourists.

In addition, Fangchenggang is also the town of Jinhua Tea, which is a rare plant in China. In addition to its ornamental value, Jinhua Tea also has very high medicinal value.
