Xianyang is located in the center of Shaanxi Province, with a land area of 10,213 sq km, and population of 5.0 million. It is a mere 24 km away from Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi province.

Xianyang has seven major industries, namely food processing, equipment manufacturing, building materials, pharmaceuticals, energy and chemicals, textile and garment, electronics. The anterior five pillar industries realized industrial output of RMB 91.9 billion in total, accounting for 94.1% of the city's total from enterprises with designated size and above.

By the end of 2010, Xianyang had the only agricultural high-tech industries demonstration zone in China.
