Introduction
 

Ziyang is located in the middle-eastern part of Sichuan Province. It covers an area of 7,962 sq km and has a population of 5 million.

Ziyang has a subtropical, humid monsoon climate with plenty of rainfall and four distinct seasons. The average temperature is 17°C, while the average annual precipitation totals approximately 950 mm.

Ziyang is rich in natural resources. There are over 40 rivers running through the city’s lands. Forests cover 47% of the city’s lands. Additionally, Ziyang is an important production base for fruits, special aquatic products and special livestock and poultry. Big Ear Sheep, French Fan Duck, Giant Salamander and freshwater pearls are the exceptional products of the city. Ziyang is also the top production base for lemons in China. Output of lemons in Ziyang amounted to more than 80,000 tons in 2007.

Ziyang has convenient access to transportation. It is adjacent to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan, Chongqing, the largest municipality in China, Leshan, Neijiang, Suining and Deyang. The Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway, the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, State Highway 321 (Guangzhou-Chengdu), State Highway 318 (Xiamen-Chengdu) and State Highway 318 (Shanghai-Lhasa) run through the city.

 
Economic Features
 
Ziyang realized GDP of RMB 65.79 billion in 2010, representing a rise of 17% year on year. The city's GDP accounted for approximately 4.6% of Sichuan's total and ranked twelfth in the province. The agricultural sector generated value-added industrial output of RMB 15.18 billion in 2010, accounting for 23% of the city's GDP.

In 2010, value-added industrial output of secondary industry (industry and construction), the largest contributor of the city's economy, amounted to RMB 34.84 billion and accounted for 53% of the city's total. The value-added industrial output generated by the enterprises with designated size and above reached RMB 34.1 billion, up 29.9% year on year.  

Autos, food processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles and building materials are the pillar industries of the city. These industries realized value-added industrial output of RMB 21.9 billion in 2009, up 33.1% year on year. The value contributed 8.26% to that from all enterprises with designated size or above. Autos, food processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles and building materials generated value-added industrial output of RMB 7.1 billion, RMB 6.3 billion, RMB 2.6 billion, RMB 2.5 billion and RMB 3.5 billion, up 33.5%, 32.1%, 30.9%, 30.2% and 33.9% year on year, respectively.

The value-added industrial output from enterprises with designated size or above in the seven industrial parks of Ziyang increased by 32.5% year on year in 2009 to RMB 18.8 billion, contributing 70.9% to the industrial sector's total.

Currently, Ziyang has no listed companies. However, CSR Ziyang Locomotive Works, the national railway's specialized manufacturer of high-powered main-line diesel locomotives for passenger and freight transportation and of various kinds of shunting locomotives and electric locomotives, is planning to launch its IPO in Shanghai or Shenzhen.

In 2010, the service sector generated value-added industrial output of RMB 15.77 billion, contributing 24% of the city's GDP.

The city's foreign trade value amounted to US$156.69 million in 2010, comprising export value of US$138.8 million and import value of US$17.89 million.. Currently, Ziyang has traded with over 20 countries and areas all over the world. The European Union, ASEAN member nations and South Korea are the city's major export destinations.

In 2010, 8.72 million domestic tourists visited the city, up 11.4% year on year, while domestic tourism income totaled RMB 6.99 billion, representing a rise of 30.1% over last year.
 
Cultural Highlights
 

Ziyang was first designated as a county during the Han Dynasty (135 B.C.). In 2000, it was officially established as a prefecture-level city.  

Anyue County, under the administration of Ziyang, is home to over 100,000 traditional stone carvings. Anyyue was appraised by the State Ministry of Culture as the Town of Folk Rock Carving.

Chen Yi, a famous revolutionary, military strategist and poet, as well as the second minister for foreign affairs of People's Republic of China, was born in Ziyang.

 
Tourist Attraction
 

Ziyang is rich in historical and cultural landmarks as well as beautiful natural scenery. Tourists should visit Huaxi Valley, Longquan Lake, the Buddha of Banyue Mountain, Wufeng Mountain Forest Park, Huayan Cave, Pilu Cave, and Chen Yi’s Former Residence.

The Rock Carvings are a popular tourist attraction, and have been given an AAA rating, the third highest level in China.

When it comes to special local snacks, Linjiang Temple Lobster Sauce, Jianyang Mutton Soup and Lezhi Barbecue are really delicious and popular in Ziyang.
