Deyang is located in the northeast part of Sichuan Province. The city covers an area of 5,818 sq km and has a population of 3.88 million.
Deyang has a subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. The average temperature is 16.6-17.9°C, while the average annual precipitation is 880-1,020 mm.
Deyang is rich in mineral resources such as phosphorite, natural gas, coal, and limestone. Demonstrated reserves of phosphorite and natural gas amount to 169 million tons and 36.1 billion steres, accounting for 25% and 17% of the province's total, respectively. Deyang has become the civilian and industrial natural gas supply base of the Chengdu economic circle.
Transportation in Deyang is very convenient and mainly and relies on highways and railways. It is 80 km from Chengdu and 120 km from Mianyang, the two largest economies in Sichuan Province. The Baoji-Chengdu Railway, the Dazhou-Chengdu Railway and the Chengdu-Mianyang Expressway run through the city.
Economic Features
Deyang's economy recovered quickly from the "5.12" earthquake in 2008. It realized GDP of RMB 92.13 billion in 2010, representing a rise of 14.4% year on year. The city's GDP accounted for approximately 6.5% of Sichuan's total and ranked third in the province.
In 2010, the value-added output of secondary industry (industry and construction) amounted to RMB 53.27 billion and accounted for 57.8% of the city's total. In 2010, the gross industrial output from enterprises with designated size and above hit RMB 166.3 billion, up 30.4% year on year.
Pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food, construction materials, equipment manufacturing and textiles are the major industries in the city. Equipment manufacturing is the most important industry in Deyang. In 2009, value-added industrial output from equipment manufacturing contributed 47.6% to the industrial sector's total.
There are four listed companies based in Deyang, namely, Dongfang Electric Corporation<600875>, a company principally engaged in the manufacture and sale of electricity generating equipment, Guoxing Rongda Real Estate<000838>, a local property operator, Sichuan Meifeng Chemical<000731>, a manufacturer of urea, melamine, plastic bags and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes, and Sichuan Jinlu Group<000510>, a chemical company. In 2009, Dongfang Electric Corporation gained profit of RMB 1.6 billion, 15.3 times the figure in 2008.
In 2010, the service sector generated value-added output of RMB 23.6 billion, contributing 25.7% of the city's GDP.
In 2010, the city's foreign trade value sank 32.1% to US$.2.23 billion, comprising export value of US$940 million and import value of US$1.29 billion. Machinery and electronic products are the major export goods of Deyang. Deyang has traded with 129 countries and areas all over the world. Famous enterprises such as Sichuan Honghua Petroleum Equipment Co Ltd and Sichuan Lomon Corporation, an influential phosphorous chemical producer, produced a large percentage of the total export goods. The utilized FDI in the city topped US$28.56 billion.
In 2010, 7.68 million tourists visited the city, 48.4% more than in the previous year, while tourism income reached RMB 4.08 billion, representing a rise of 33.5% year on year.

Deyang boasts a profound history. It is an important birthplace of Sichuan Bashu Culture.
Tourists should visit the Sanxingdui Ruins, which are some of the most ornamental in China, the Deyang Confucian Temple, one of four best-preserved Confucian temples in China, as well as many three-kingdom cultural relics such as Pangtong Shrine, Luofeng Slope, and Zhuge Shrine.

Deyang is rich in historical and cultural relics as well as beautiful natural scenery. Tourists should visit Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan, Yinghua Mountain Scenery Area, Jiuding Mountain Scenery Area, Yun Lake Forest Park, Jiannanchun Forest Park, and Deyang Stone Inscription.
Sanxingdui Museum is considered to be one of the 5 major tourist spots in Sichuan Province, and has been given an AAAA ranking, the second highest in China. It is also the first museum in the world to be certified as both “Green Global 21” and ISO9001:2000.
When in Mianzhu, under the jurisdiction of Deyang, tourists should sample a liquor named Jiannanchun, which is one of ten most famous liquors from ancient China.
