Introduction
 

Guang'an is located in eastern part of Sichuan Province, bordering Chongqing. Guang'an covers an area of 6,344 sq km and has a population of 4.6 million.

Guang'an has a subtropical, humid monsoon climate with plenty of rainfall and four distinct seasons. The average temperature is 15.8-17.7°C, while the average annual precipitation is 1,000-1,500 mm.

Guang'an is rich in mineral resources such as coal, natural gas, rock salt, limestone, refractory clay, siderite, and vanadium perovskite. It has 700 billion tons of coal reserves and 700 million steres of natural gas.

Transportation in Guang'an mainly relies on highways, railways and waterways. State Highway 318, State Highway 210 and State Highway 212, the Guang'an-Chongqing Expressway and the Hubei-Chongqing Railway run through the city, while the Guang'an-Dianjiang Expressway and the Guang'an-Dachuan Expressway are under construction. In addition, Qujiang River waterway allows 500-ton ships to sail directly to Chongqing. Although there is no airport in Guang'an, Nanchong Airport and Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport are 60 km and 100 km from Guang'an,respectively..

 
Economic Features
 
Guang'an economy was affected by the earthquake in 2008. However, it recovered quickly. Guang'an realized GDP of RMB 45 billion in 2009, representing a rise of 14.7% year on year. The city's GDP accounted for approximately 3.2% of Sichuan’s total and ranked fourteenth in the province. The agricultural sector generated value-added output of RMB 10.1 billion in 2009, accounting for 22.4% of the city's GDP.

In 2009, the value-added output of secondary industry (industry and construction) amounted to RMB 20 billion, accounting for 44.4% of the city's total. The value--added industrial output generated by the industrial enterprises with designated size and above reached RMB 14.7 billion, up 28.6% year on year.

Coal mining, electricity, building materials, machinery manufacturing and food processing are the pillar industries of the city. These industries realized total industrial output of RMB 30.1 billion, accounting for 72.3% of the industrial sector's total. In 2009, the city produced 5.8 million tons of cement and 75,000 tons of edible oil.

There is a famous listed company based in Guang'an, namely Sichuan Guang'an AAA Public <600979>, a company principally engaged in the generation and distribution of electricity and natural gas. It recorded a net profit of RMB 48.2 million in 2009.

In 2009, the service sector generated value-added output of RMB 15 billion, contributing 33.1% of the city's GDP. Silks, textiles and garments are the major export goods of Guang'an. The U.S., the E.U., Japan, Russia and Hong Kong are important trading partners.

In 2009, 8.6 million tourists visited the city, 29.7% more than in the previous year, and income from tourism was RMB 5.1 billion, up 33.1% year on year.
 
Cultural Highlights
 

Guang'an boasts a revolutionary history. Deng Xiaoping, the second generation leader of China, was born here.

In addition, Guang'an is also famous for Huaying Mountain, one of the eight well-known Buddhist Shrines in China, which has approximately 30 Buddhist temples.

Yuntong Dance, which has 200 years of history, was appraised as outstanding folk dance by the National Ministry of Culture.

 
Tourist Attraction
 

Guang'an is rich in historical and cultural relics as well as beautiful natural scenery. Tourists should visit Yankou Ancient Town, Deng Xiaoping Residence, Longxugou Scenery Areas, Huaying Rock Forest Tourism Area, and Yuechifeng Mountain Park.

Huaying Rock Forest Tourism Area is a national scenery spot with a rating of AAAA, The second highest level in China.

Guang'an salt preserved egg, pine needle tea and Huaying Mountain Tremella could be very good presents for tourists.
