Introduction
 

Fuxin is located in the northwestern part of Liaoning Province. It covers an area of 10,445 sq km. The population of the city amounted to 1.9 million by the end of 2009. The Mongol ethnic group accounts for approximately 11% to the city's total population.

Fuxin has a temperate semi-dry continental monsoon climate. The average temperature is 7.6°C while the average annual precipitation reaches approximately 481 mm.

Fuxin, which was rich in coal resources in 1960s, has exhausted its coal, and was established as a trial city for economic transformation by the State Council in 2001.

Transportation in Fuxin is very convenient. State Highway 101, State Highway 304, the Shenyang-Fuxin Expressway and the Fuxin-Jinzhou Expressway run through the city. Additionally, there are also railways connecting Fuxin with surrounding prefecture-level cities such as Shenyang, Jinzhou, and Liaoyang. Fuxin is 110 km from Jinzhou Port and 200 km from Yingkou Port.

 
Economic Features
 
Fuxin realized GDP of RMB 28.62 billion in 2009, representing a rise of 16% year on year. The city is the smallest economy in the Liaoning province.

The agricultural sector generated value-added industrial output of RMB 6.37 billion in 2009, accounting for 22.3% of the city's GDP. Output of grain amounted to 1.37 million tons, decreased 32.2% than that of 2008.

In 2009, the value-added output of secondary industry (industry and construction) amounted to RMB 11.72 billion and accounted for 40.9% of the city's total.

The industrial sector realized value-added industrial output of RMB 9.91 billion, up 17.2% year on year, while value-added industrial output of industrial enterprises with designated size or above increased by 19.5% to RMB 7.7 billion.

Heavy and light industries with designated size or above realized value-added industrial output of RMB 6.6 billion and RMB 1.1 billion, contributing 85.7% and 14.3% to the total, respectively.

Energy, equipment manufacturing, agricultural product processing, are the pillar industries of Fuxin. The value-added industrial output of the three pillars amounted to RMB 4.3 billion, RMB 1.36 billion, and RMB 1 billion, respectively. As a whole, they realized value-added industrial output of RMB 6.68 billion, contributing 86.5% to the total generated by the industrial enterprises with designated size or above.

In 2009, the service sector generated value-added industrial output of RMB 10.54 billion, contributing 36.8% of the city's GDP.

Tourism is important for the city's service sector. During 2009, more than 5.2 million tourists visited the city, up 41.2% year on year, while tourism income totaled RMB 3.7 billion, rising 96.8% compared to the previous year.

The city’s foreign trade amounted to US$114.01 million in 2009, representing a healthy increase of 2.1% compared to the previous year. Exports soared 0.7% to US$106.08 million,,while imports increased by 26.3% to US$7.93 million.

In 2009, Fuxin contracted 27 foreign invested programs with the utilized FDI of US$64.12 million, representing a rise of 42.1% year on year.
 
Cultural Highlights
 

Fuxin once had a unique aboriginal civilization. As early as 7,000 years ago, there were people living in this area. Chahai Ancient Human Remains, found in Fuxin, was appraised as the First Village in China.

In addition, Fuxin is also the eastern center of Tibetan Buddhism. Ruiying Temple, a key cultural landmark under provincial protection, was built in the typical Tibetan style.

Zhang Sanfeng, the most famous Taoist Master and one of the initiators of Taiji Gongfu in the Ming Dynasty, was born in Fuxin.

 
Tourist Attraction
 

Fuxin is rich in historical landmarks such as Shengjing Temple, which is a Mongolian Lamaism Temple, Ruiying Temple, Qingzhen Temple, Chahai Ruins, Yizhou Town Ruins, and Haitang Mountain Cliff Figures. Fuxin’s scenery spots include Daqinggou Reservoir Scenic Area, Namusilai Nature Reserve, Fuxin People's Park, and Lilac Sea.

Qinggou Fish Feast and Mongolian Pie, which is made of buckwheat flour, cattle and sheep meat, and which has a history of over 300 years, are very popular among local people.
