Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, is at the center of Jiangxi’s politics, economy, and culture.
Nanchang borders the Poyang Lake, which is the largest fresh-water lake in China, and lies in the middle- and lower-reaches of the Yangtze River. It is the intersection of the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway, and is the only provincial capital city on the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, connecting South and North China.
There are 46 universities and colleges located in Nanchang, including Nanchang University, East China Jiaotong University, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economy, Jiangxi normal University, Jiangxi Agriculture University, et cetera.
Economic Features
Nanchang is the largest economy of the province. In 2010, GDP of the city amounted to RMB 220.71 billion, up 14% year-on-year.
In 2010, the value-added industrial output of the industrial sector reached RMB 65.09 billion, a rise of 21% over the year before.
Pillar industries in the city include automobile manufacturing, home appliances, electronics and information technology, medicines and food processing, textiles and garments, as well as new construction materials. The city has eight provincial level industrial parks. In 2010, operating revenue of the parks rose 27.4% to RMB 198.58 billion.
As one of the most important industries in Nanchang, the city produced 19,970 units of cars, up 60.2% year on year. There are around ninety auto- and related parts-manufacturing companies located in Nanchang, of which, Jiangling Motors Co Ltd and Nanchang Changli Iron and Steel Co Ltd are listed in Mainland China bourses.
In 2010, Nanchang's total foreign trade amounted to US$5.3 billion, up 52.4% from 2009. European Union, U.S. and Japan are its main trade partners. Within the same year, the city's utilized FDI amounted to US$2.02 billion, up 27.5% year-on-year, of which, the foreign investments injecting to the manufacturing industry and the service industry amounted to US$833 million and US$1.01 billion, accounting for 41.2% and 50.2% of the city's total respectively. Major investment sources include Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea and South-East Asia.

Nanchang is a famous historical and cultural city, with a history stretching back over 2200 years. Moreover, Nanchang is a heroic city with a glorious revolutionary tradition. The People’s Liberation Army was born in Nanchang, and “the August 1st Spirit, namely revolution spirit” appeared here.
Tourist Attraction
There are many interesting and unique tourist attractions in Nanchang, such as the Memorial Hall of the August 1st Nanchang Uprising, the People's Square, the August 1st Park, Qingyunpu, and the Tengwang Tower.
