Canada Proposes Cribs, Cradles & Bassinets Regulations

The Canadian government is proposing the Cribs, Cradles and Bassinets Regulations with the intention of amending the current Cribs and Cradles Regulations. Similar amendment was proposed in 2004, however, the proposal was ultimately withdrawn and was not published in the Canada Gazette.

The Challenge:

The new proposal broadens the definition of a crib to eliminate the distinction between standard and portable cribs, as well as including bassinets and requirements relating to packaging and labeling information, construction and performance which include, for example, flammability, side height, static load, shearing and pinching hazards, within the scope of the regulations.

Test method for determining the compliance of a crib or cradle product with the current Cribs and Cradles Regulations will also be amended when the new Regulations come into force.
