Transition Period of the Newly Added Products in the Statutory Inspection Directory Extended to the End of 2009

A good news for China's import and export companies is that the transition period of the newly added products in the Statutory Inspection Directory will be extended by half year. Recently, AQSIQ issued "Notice on extending the transition period of the newly added products in the Statutory Inspection Directory or covered by the additional supervisory conditions” (National Quality Inspection Circular [2009] No. 395). It is decided that the transition period will be extend to Dec 31, 2009.

By the end of last year, there had been many actions taken by foreign countries against China made products. To improve the quality of imported and exported commodities, China General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and the General Administration of Customs decided to amend the Statutory Inspection Directory by putting in and taking out some import and export products effective from Jan 1, 2009. (Click to view the Directory) In the meanwhile, the General Administration set half year's transition period starting from Jan 1, 2009 so that the companies with products put in or taken out of the Directory have time to make adjustment. During the transition period, companies with products newly added to the Directory shall make self declaration, and the inspection and quarantine authorities will only review the document without inspection or quarantine.

The impact of the global financial crisis kept expanding during the past half year. China's export industry still faces great pressure. To help the companies speed up delivery, improve efficiency of customs clearance, reduce export risk and save operation cost, AQSIQ newly extends the transition period to Dec 31, 2009.
