EU Directive Adds a New Fibre to List of Generic Fibre Names

The European commission has issued a new directive which adds a new generic fibre to the list of fibre names.

Directive 2011/73/EU adds the new generic fibre name of “polypropylene/polyamide bicomponent”.

The addition of this fibre amends the Annex I of the Directive 2008/121/EC on Textile Names. It extends the list of fibre names that can be used in the European Union to label textile products.

It is mandatory in the European Union countries to display the fibre content of textile products. The description used on the label must clearly indicate the correct content and must fulfil the criteria laid by the member states and Directive 2008/121/EC.
