Malaysian Extend Transitional Period for Toys Safety Standards
|
On 21st December 2009, Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operations and Consumerism (KPDNKK) of Malaysia extended the transitional period for implementation of consumer protection regulations with respect to the safety standards of toys and children's products. While the enforcement has been postponed, all toys and children's products should seek to comply with applicable rules and bans.
Both consumer protection regulations below were announced on 30th July 2009 and were supposed to be enforced from 30th January 2010 after six months transitional period.
· Consumer Protection (Safety Standards for Toys) Regulations 2009 · Consumer Protection (Certificate of Approval & Approach Safety Compliance Standard) 2009
With the feedback from the toys industry, the enforcement date has been extended until 1st July 2010. And the implementation approach has been changed from 'type approval' to 'self-declaration' mechanism. Though the 'self-declaration' is accepted, the toys and children's products must still comply with the safety standards.
Toy importers are required to submit self-declaration form to the customs and the ministry of domestic trade .The test report should be submitted upon the demand during inspection conducted by customs or KPDNKK.
