Argentina Sets New Criterion Values for Range of Products

Argentina’s Dirección General de Aduanas (Argentinean Customs) has over the past three months continued its regular practice of reviewing and setting new or amended criterion values for a wide array of imported merchandise of particular interest. The latest examples include seven administrative notices (General Resolutions 2808/2010, 2813/2010, 2815/2010, 2816/2010 2817/2010, 2831/2010 and 2859/2010) establishing or amending the criterion values for certain garments, artificial staple yarn, lighters, copper wire, plastic containers, tube/pipe fittings and electrical conductors. Criterion values are reference values aimed at preventing the under-invoicing of imports. Imports with a declared value lower than the criterion value require payment of a guarantee equivalent to the difference in duties to be paid on the declared value and the criterion value.
The list of products subject to criterion values is frequently modified and applies to imports from a range of suppliers, including Hong Kong and mainland China.
