The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the following recalls of products made in mainland China.

Lamps. Wincraft Inc. has recalled about 145 rotating sports table lamps because they can pose fire, burn and shock hazards to consumers. The recalled lamps feature logos from a professional or college sports team and rotate 360 degrees so that the logo can be easily seen. Lamps feature team logos from the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA and NASCAR. The lamps measure about six inches wide and 13 inches high and have a black base with a light. They were sold at sports memorabilia and other specialty stores during August 2009.

Light Switches. Idea Village Products Corp. is recalling some 1.3 million Handy Switch wireless light switches because the switch receiver, which fits into the wall outlet, can overheat and pose a fire hazard to consumers. The Handy Switch is a white plastic wireless remote light switch with model number KS-080 printed on the back of the receiver. On the front of the receiver is a blue electroluminescent nightlight. These switches were sold at mass merchandisers and drug store chains nationwide and through television infomercials and the Internet from March 2007 through July 2009.

Candle Holders. Coyne’s & Company has issued a recall for approximately 7,800 candle holders because the window panes on the screen can ignite, posing a fire hazard. This recall involves haunted house screen tea light holders made of black metal with a transparent coating on the glass windows. These candle holders measure 15-inches wide by 15-inches high by four-inches deep and can hold up to six tea lights. They were sold exclusively at Yankee Candle stores nationwide and on-line at YankeeCandle.com between August and September 2009.

Flatware. Cambridge Silversmiths Ltd. Inc. has announced a recall of about 13,000 flatware sets because the plastic decorative inserts on the flatware’s handles can detach during dishwashing, posing a choking hazard to children. This recall involves the Fiesta Masquerade and the Home Olympic 20-piece flatware sets. The Fiesta Masquerade flatware set is silver-coloured and the handles have plastic decorative inserts in red, orange, yellow, green and three different shades of blue. The Home Olympic flatware sets are charcoal and the handles have decorative black inserts. They were sold exclusively at JC Penney, Federated Department Stores, Bealls and Homer Laughlin from November 2008 through May 2009, as well as at Target from August 2008 through August 2009.

Rechargeable Batteries. Coby Electronics Corp. has recalled about 19,600 rechargeable batteries sold with portable DVD/CD/MP3 players because they can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. The recall involves Coby DVD/CD/MP3 players with an 8.5 inch screen and product number TF-DVD- 8501. The recalled batteries were sold at discount, electronics, music, toy and office supply stores and by distributors of electronic products nationwide from January 2007 through September 2009.

Roman Shades. Whole Space Industries LTD is recalling about 90,000 Faux Suede roman shades because strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck. This recall involves all Faux Suede room darkening roman shades with style number 12810A. The shades were sold in ivory, taupe, gold, plum, wine red, midnight blue, moss green and dark brown, and have a head rail that measures 23, 27, 31, 35, 39 43 or 48 inches. The shades have a sticker on the head rail with the letters “WS” and “style 12810A” is printed on the packaging box. They were sold at Hanover Direct/Domestications through Internet and catalogue sales from January 2004 through December 2008.

Surge Protectors. Belkin International Inc. has issued a recall for approximately 68,700 surge protectors because moulding of the plastic 360 degree rotating plug, which allows for easy cord movement, can crack or detach from the plug assembly, posing a shock hazard to consumers. This recall involves SurgeMaster surge protector models F9G930-10, F9G930v10, F9G930-10-W and F9G930-10-SN, all manufactured in 2003. These surge protectors were sold by independent distributors nationwide and through the Internet from September 2003 through December 2007.

Roman Shades. Louis Hornick & Co. has announced a recall of some 364,000 Roman shades because strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck. This recall includes all sizes and colours of Dublin Energy Solution Roman shades sold with exposed inner cords on the back. Colours include navy, chocolate, khaki and cream. These shades were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond stores nationwide and on-line at www.bedbathandbeyond.com from August 2007 through September 2009.

Flashlights. Target has recalled some 610,000 Halloween flashlights because they can overheat and melt, posing a burn hazard to consumers. This recall involves two types of Halloween-themed flashlights: mini flashlights and flashlights sold with stencils. The mini flashlights have a key ring extending from the bottom and were sold in a pack of three colours: orange, green and black. Also included in the recall are standard sized flashlights with a black handle and an orange top. These flashlights were sold with six stencils in various colours and images: a pumpkin, ghost, spider, cat, witch and skull & cross-bones. The recalled flashlights were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide from August through September 2009.

AC Adapters. Sony Electronics Inc. is recalling about 69,000 Sony VAIO computer AC adapters because insulation inside these adapters can fail over time, posing an electrical shock hazard to consumers. The recalled AC adapter model is the Sony VGP-AC19V17, which was supplied for use with all-in-one VAIO desktop computers (VGC-LT series and VGC-JS2 series) and VAIO docking stations (models VGP-PRBX1 and VGP-PRFE1). They were sold on-line, at The SonyStyle stores and by authorised electronics retailers and authorised business-to-business dealers nationwide from September 2005 through October 2009.
