Taiwan – Standard for Safety of Textiles (General Requirement)

| Quality and safety standards for textiles, clothing and footwear are constantly evolving. Nowadays, consumers have increased their demand for products that are safe and of high quality. The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan made an announcement1 on October 6, 2009 for the release of new standard - CNS 15290 "Safety of Textiles (General Requirements)". BSMI requirements are based on the Chinese National Standards (CNS) of Taiwan. |
The objective of this safety requirement for textiles is to prevent health problems caused by the use of harmful substances and to warn consumers through Marking & Labeling.
Textile Products that are covered under this safety standard includes:
• Baby Textile Products, • Textile Products which maintain direct contact with skin, • Textile Products which maintain indirect contact with skin, • Textile Materials used in Interior decoration.
The textile products that are not covered under this regulation include Geo-textiles, Textile products for protection against insulation, radioactive contamination and heat.
