Hactl air freight throughput declines 7.7pc to 237,739 tonnes in July

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) handled 237,739 tonnes of cargo in July, representing a 7.7 per cent year on year decrease. Total tonnage since January this year stood at 1.56 million tonnes, a 5.1 per cent year-on-year drop.
Export volume for July was 126,369 tonnes, down 9.8 per cent year on year while the total export volume for the first seven months was 822,313 tonnes, representing a decrease of 7.9 per cent year on year. Import volume for July was 58,904 tonnes, down 13.1 per cent against the same month last year. Aggregate import volume for the first seven months of 2011 was 403,551 tonnes, down seven per cent against the same period last year.
But the company experienced growth in transshipment cargo, posting 52,466 tonnes in July, up 5.3 per cent year on year. Cumulative transshipment tonnage also grew for the first seven months at 337,488 tonnes, representing an increase of 5.3 per cent.
