Norway Proposes to Regulate 4 Chemicals in Consumer Products

In late December 2011, Norway notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) that they are proposing to regulate 4 chemicals in consumer products. The proposed date of entry into force is 1 July 2012.
In 2007, we informed you that Norway notified the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to restrict a number of restricted substances in the homogeneous components of consumer products1.
On 20 December, 2011, Norway notified the World Trade Organisation Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade that they are proposing to regulate 4 chemicals, lead, pentachlorophenol (PCP), Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), Medium Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (MCCP), in consumer products2. This proposal is a revision of the former proposal dated 2007. When the content of these 4 chemicals in the product's homogeneous components parts are greater or equal to the limiting values specified, the production, import, export or sales of consumer products are prohibited.
The details are listed in Table 1.

The regulation does not apply to the following:
- Food products, fertilizers, tobacco, medicine
- Means of transport , permanently mounted equipment form means of transport and tyres and similar accessories for means of transport
