Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, a major telecom equipment vendor in China, said last week that it had won a 3G cooperation contract from Turkey's Avea, one of the largest GSM operators in the country, to help the company deploy a 3G network and deliver 3G based services in central Anatolia and the Mediterranean regions.
The contract, which is valued at over US$100 million, will include investments in 3G technical systems, 3G management and auditing systems, 3G spare part management, and 3G training and professional support, Huawei said in a statement.
Avea is expected to launch 3G services for Turkish customers in 2009.
Shenzhen-based Huawei last month said its net profit grew 20% from a year earlier to US$1.15 billion in 2008. Its revenue rose 43% in 2008 to US$18.33 billion from US$12.84 billion a year earlier. Its global sales jumped 46% year on year to US$23.3 billion last year, with overseas sales accounting for 75% of the total.
The company said it this year aims to maintain steady growth and to sign contracts worth US$30 billion as compared to US$23 billion in 2008.
