Fujian ports' 10-month throughput surpasses 300 million tonnes

Fujian province's sea ports lifted 310 million tonnes of cargo during the period from January to October, taking up 92 per cent of the province's annual target, Xinhua reports.

It took a whole year for the throughput of these ports to reach 300 million tonnes last year, but this year it only needs 10 months.

As the implementation of the Mainland-Taiwan Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) continues to deepen, Fujian recorded a cross-strait cargo transportation volume of 8.12 million tonnes in the first 10 months, up 60 per cent year on year, and 1.13 million tonnes in October, up 90 per cent over the same month in 2010. The cross-strait direct services recorded 1,182 sailings in first 10 months and 134 sailings in October.

In October, sea ports in the province operated 2,107 sailings of container shipping services, 201 sailings more than in September, carrying a total of 870,000 TEU, up 22 per cent year on year.

Since entering cooperation agreement with Shanghai's Zhonggu Xinliang Shipping, a shipping arm of the China state-owned grain company CGOG, port of Xiamen's domestic trade container volume surged 95 per cent, boosting Fujian's total by 50 per cent.
