Fuzhou airport to spend US$3.17 million to become cross-strait air hub

Fuzhou's municipal government, and the provincial Fujian Development and Reform Commission have signed an agreement with operator of Fuzhou Changle Airport, Xiamen, Xiangye Group, on developing the airport into a hub for Mainland-Taiwan traffic.

According to the agreement, the Fujian Development and Reform Commission will offer a support fund with CNY20 million (US$3.17 million) for the airport, while Fuzhou government and Xiangye Group will offer CNY50 million.

Fuzhou Changle Airport is operating four cross-strait air routes to Taipei's Songshan airport, Taoyuan airport, Taichung and Kaohsiung, offering a total of 54 flights per week to and from Taiwan. It also offers two postal flights per week to Taipei.

Last year, Fuzhou airport's passenger throughput hit 7.2 million, up 11.12 per cent year on year. International and Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan passengers grew 18.04 per cent to 834,000 people.
