Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou Province, is also its political, economic, technological, educational and cultural center.
The city is located in the middle of Guizhou, on the eastern side of the Yungui Plateau. It has a pleasant subtropical climate with plenty of sunlight and ample rainfall.
Guiyang is the transportation center of Guizhou Province. Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport is connected to more than 40 domestic cities and offers flights to Hong Kong, Macau and Bangkok. Four railways pass through Guiyang, connecting it to major domestic cities such as Chongqing, Chengdu, Kunming, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and so on. In addition, the ring expressway and speedways that will connect these cities are under construction. They are expected to start operations in a few years.
Guiyang has 10 colleges and universities with a total of 181,300 enrolled students. Its education system lags behind that of most of the capital cities of other provinces.

In 2010, Guiyang's GDP grew 14.3% from a year earlier to RMB112.18 billion, becoming the largest economy in Guizhou province and accounting for 31% of the province's total.
The ten major industries, namely, tobacco, non-ferrous metallurgy, electricity and thermal power, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, rubber manufacturing, automobiles, ferrous metallurgy, food processing and nonmetallic mineral products generated a value-added industrial output of RMB 22.9 billion, contributing 75.2% to the total of that from the enterprises with the designated size and above in the city.
Its foreign trade value up 25.7% to US$2.28 billion, including an export value of US$1.44 billion and an import value of US$834 million. Chemical products, steel, non-ferrous metals and so on are major exports of the city. ASEAN, Japan, the E.U. and the U.S. are the most important trading partners of the city.
Tourism is also an important pillar in Guiyang. In 2010, the number of domestic tourists to Guiyang reached 39.4 million, realizing a domestic tourist income of RMB 42.4 billion, up 45.2% year on year.

Guiyang is home to more than 30 minority ethnic groups including the Miao, Buyi, Dong, Hui and so on. Consequently the city is rich in unique folk culture and traditions that give rise to many colorful ethnic activities.

Exposure to unique ethnic customs and natural scenery are all parts of the special Guiyang travel package. The Jiaxiu Pavilion, Qianling Park, Hongfu Temple and the Dragon Palace are all worth visiting.
