Two Hainan airports passenger throughput surpasses 10 million

The southern island province of Hainan's Haikou Meilan International Airport and Sanya Phoenix International Airport both recorded a passenger throughput of over 10 million people Xinhua reports.
By 2020, Haikou airport's passenger throughput will hit 30 million while Sanya's will reach 20 million.
Haikou airport CEO Dong Zhanbin said the growth in the two airports' passenger volume was stimulated by government's policy to encourage carriers to start services to Hainan.
Last year, the Haikou government offered a total of CNY29.87 million (US$4.73 million) reward for air carriers that launched service there. CNY18.62 million were given to international services, taking up more than 60 per cent of the total. This year, the government plans to offer CNY130 million.
In 2009, Sanya airport recorded a passenger throughput of 9.29 million persons. Haikou recorded 8.77 million.
