Hainan's 2011 cargo volume increases 13.8pc to 84.1 million tonnes

Hainan province is experiencing continuous growth in cargo movement as Beijing's plan unfolds to develop the south Chinese island into an international tourism centre, reports Xinhua.

Last year, the province's ports recorded a cargo movement of 84.1 million tonnes, 13.8 per cent, or 11.1 million tonnes, more than in 2010.

The fastest growing categories of cargo included metal, timber, ore, steel and construction materials.
