| Introduction |
Mianyang High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Mianyang HIDZ) was approved by the State Council and established in 1992 as a state-level development zone.
Mianyang HIDZ consists of the State-level New Material Industrialization Base, Sichuan University Mianyang Science Park, the Biopharmaceutical Professional Incubation Park, the Overseas Returnees Pioneering Park and an Export Processing Zone.
Mianyang HIDZ has a favorable geographic location. It is located in the western part of Mianyang only 1 km from downtown, 96 km from Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan, and 8 km from Mianyang Nanjiao Airport. |
| Investment Climate |
In 2010, Mianyang HIDZ realized gloss industrial output of RMB 53.09 billion from the enterprises above designated size. Its major industries are information technology, biopharmaceuticals, new materials and automobiles and auto parts. There are over 130 enterprises above the designated size in Mianyang HIDZ.
Since the establishment of Mianyang HIDZ, the zone has attracted US$5.8 billion in investment from domestic and foreign investors, of which, FDI contributed US$1.5 billion. Over 800 industrial enterprises have settled in the zone, including foreign-funded companies such as Sichuan Ripu Fine Chemicals, Mianyang Pulse Electronics and Chia Tai Produce. In 2009, Mianyang HIDZ realized a total value-added industrial output of about RMB 8.88 million. GDP hit RMB 10.42 billion.
Sichuan Changhong Electric is one of the most well-known investors in the zone. Established in 1958, Changhong is now one of the largest Chinese consumer electronics providers. It specializes in the R&D, manufacturing and marketing of consumer electronics products such as TVs, air conditioners and refrigerators. In 2008, Changhong’s revenue grew 20.1% year on year to RMB 27.9 billion. |
