Mazda's China sales up 19% in May
Mazda Motor Corp, a major automaker in Japan, on Wednesday said it sold 13,916 vehicles last month in China, 19% more than in 2008, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The company said in a statement that its China sales increased 23.3% year on year to 64,498 units in the first five months of this year.
The Japanese automaker's first quarter sales in China rose 22% year on year to 32,217 units, according the company's statement.
Mazda expects its vehicle sales in China to grow by 33% to 170,000 units this year, China Knowledge reported earlier.
The company last month raised its shareholding in its Chinese sales company, FAW-Mazda Motor Sales Corp, to 40% from the previous 25% to boost vehicles sales and to expand its dealer network in the country.
Mazda earlier said that its China sales grew 25% year on year to 127,849 units last year.
