Minnesota - The First State in the US to Ban Bisphenol-A

Following Suffolk County (Intertek news update CN-222), the State of Minnesota has become the first state to ban bisphenol-A. The bill passed in the Senate and House on a 53-8 and 126-5 vote respectively.

The Challenge:

By January 1, 2010, no manufacturer or wholesaler may sell or offer for sale in the state a children's product that contains bisphenol-A. This does not apply to sale of a used children's product.

By January 1, 2011, no retailer may sell or offer for sale in the state a children's product that contains bisphenol-A.

Notes:

"Child" means a person under three years of age.

"Children's product" means an empty bottle or cup to be filled with food or liquid that is designed or intended by a manufacturer to be used by a child.
