CPSC Recalls Various Products Made in China

The CPSC has announced the following recalls of products made in mainland China.

Infant Toys. Infantino LLC has recalled some 172,000 infant toys in the United States and about 12,000 infant toys in Canada because blue metallic fabric can detach from those toys, posing a choking hazard to young children. The recalled infant toys are the Infantino Lil' Chef Set (model numbers 158-201 and 558-201), the Infantino Activity Stacker (model number 158-202) and the Infantino Tag Along Chime Trio (model number 150-3092). These toys were sold at Babies "R" Us, Target, Wal-Mart, Meijer and other specialty stores from June 2007 through February 2009.

Hair Dryers. Big Lot Stores Inc. is recalling approximately 31,000 Style Elements hair dryers because they are not equipped with an immersion protection device to prevent electrocution if the hair dryer falls into water, posing an electrocution hazard to users. This recall involves Style Elements Cool Shot Turbo hand-held hair dryers model number 3615T, which have a silver body and a black handle. They were sold exclusively at Big Lots stores nationwide from July 2008 through December 2009.

Ice Skates. Pronto Sports Inc. has issued a recall for about 600 pairs of DBX Glide boys' ice skates because surface paint on these skates contains excessive levels of lead. The recalled adjustable ice skates are black with lime green and silver accents. "Glide" is printed on a rubber tag on the side of the skates. "DBX" and the DBX logo are located on the ice skate's ankle powerstrap, tongue and heel. These skates were sold at Dick's Sporting Goods nationwide from September through December 2008.

Children's Fishing Games. Pure Fishing Inc. has announced a recall of approximately 2,600 Shakespeare Casting games and fishing kits because the label on the fishing rod contains a surface coating containing high levels of lead. The recalled fishing games consist of a red and blue rod and reel with red foam targets and hook. The label is found on the front of the reel and reads "Casting Fun". These games were sold by specialty fishing retailers nationwide from November 2008 through January 2009.

Toy Bears. State Farm is recalling some 800,000 toy bears in the United States and about 27,000 toys bears in Canada because the eyes on these bears can come off, posing a choking hazard to young children. This recall involves the 11 inch (28 cm) and 18 inch (46 cm) State Farm Good Neigh bears with plastic eyes. The bears are brown and wear a white and red State Farm shirt. They were given away free through State Farm agents and at State Farm sponsored events from September 2005 through March 2007.

Girls' Shoes. Nordstrom has recalled about 31,000 girls' shoes because surface paint on the outer sole of these shoes contains excessive lead levels. The recall includes six styles of Nordstrom-brand shoes for girls. "Clarice-Fab" flats are bone coloured with a bow. "Eva-Fab" are bone coloured T-strap sandals. "Fern-Fab" are ankle strap sandals sold in bone, pink, white, blue polka-dot or pink polka-dot. "Lilly-Fab" are fuchsia gingham ballerina flats with a bow. "Rita-Fab" are ankle strap dress shoes sold in ivory linen, pink linen, white linen, cafe satin, silver satin or white satin. "Vivi-Fab" are open-toe dress shoes in bone, white, green polka-dot, lavender polka-dot or yellow polka-dot. The shoes were sold in girls' sizes 10 through big-kids 7 exclusively at Nordstrom stores nationwide from September 2006 through February 2009.

Gas Generators. Sycamore SCS has issued a recall for approximately 1,500 Sycamore Pro gas generators because a plastic sediment cup attached to the bottom of the fuel valve can crack during shipping and handling and cause fuel leakage or spillage, posing a fire hazard to consumers. This recall involves the following models: APEX 3, APEX 7, APEX 6, EGS 3.2, EGS 4.8 and EGS 7. All models are black and green and have side control panels. The APEX 3, 6 and 7 are portable generators and have two wheels and the EGS 3.2, 4.8 and 7.2 have no wheels. These generators were sold by various dealers and stores in Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oregon, Texas and Washington between May and October 2008.

Metal Containers. Montessori N' Such has announced a recall of approximately 1,000 metal vases, pails and other containers because surface paints on these products contain excessive lead levels. The recalled metal containers are instructional materials for use in the classroom. The recall includes only the following: eight inch vases (green, yellow), 5.5 inch basins (green, yellow), watering cans (yellow), six inch pails (yellow, orange) and four inch pails (yellow, green). These items were sold by Montessori N' Such to schools and individuals nationwide through its catalogue and on its Web site from July 2006 through January 2009.

Educational Craft Kits. FloraCraft Corp. is recalling some 930,000 educational kits because the surface coating on the kit's wires can contain excessive lead levels. This recall involves the "Solar System" and the "DNA" children's educational craft kits sold under the FloraCraft and HYGLOSS brand names. The kits contain green coated wires that measure 14.5 inches long and Styrofoam shapes. The following model numbers are included in this recall: Solar System kit (model numbers SS2003, SS101, 59901 and SS2003P) and DNA kit (model numbers DNA2003, 59903 and DNA2003P). These items were manufactured in the United States and mainland China and sold at Wal-Mart, Michaels, Jo-Ann Stores, Hobby Lobby and other retailers nationwide from January 2003 through February 2009.

Desktop Computers. Acer America Corp. has recalled about 215 Acer Predator desktop computers because the insulation on the computer's internal wiring can become bent or stripped, causing the wires to overheat while the product is in use and posing a burn hazard to consumers. This recall involves high-end gaming desktop computers with model numbers ASG7200 and ASG7700. They were sold at computer and electronic stores nationwide from May through December 2008.
