Introduction Approved by the State Council in 2002, Nantong Export Processing Zone (Nantong EPZ) is located in state-level Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (Nantong ETDA) in Nantong, Jiangsu, 12 km from downtown.

Nantong Port was one of China’s top 20 ports in terms of cargo traffic in 2008. The zone is 100 km from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, 150 km from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, 240 km from Nanjing Lukou Airport and 16 km from Nantong Airport. The Sutong Bridge, completed in 2008, cuts the drive between Suzhou and Nantong to 1 hour and is only 8 km from the zone. The zone has links with the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, the Yanjiang Expressway, the Nanjing-Nantong Expressway and the Nantong-Qidong Expressway. The Xinqi-Changxing Railway and the Nanjing-Qidong Railway also pass through the zone.
Investment Climate Nantong EPZ encourages investment in electronics and information, biomedicine, precision machinery, textiles and garments and various high-tech industries. It also encourages investment in warehousing and transportation. In the period from 2002 to 2008, the cumulative foreign trade value of the zone was US$1.6 billion.

Nantong EPZ consists of two special parks: the Electronic Industry Park and the Textile Industry Park. The Electronic Park covers an area of 23,600 sq m. Nantong Xinfuda, a major supplier of laser heads to Toshiba, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Philips and Samsung, has already established a presence there.

In 2008, Johnson Control, a U.S.-based maker of automotive interiors, inaugurated its 13th production base in Nantong EPZ. The base produces auto interiors for Ford, GM, Nissan and Chrysler. It aims to realize an export value of US$100 million by the end of 2010.
