Suzhou Introduces E-Management of Processing Trade

Suzhou customs has recently introduced a processing trade regional informatisation management platform, i.e. e-management, to meet the needs of the booming processing trade in the city. This platform which combines intelligent management with efficient management provides small, medium and large enterprises engaged in processing trade with a "one-stop" window for record filing and application for verification at any time as well as a means of clearing backlog. It represents the efforts of the customs administration to make its operation more transparent and to facilitate import and export enterprises.

After joining this informatisation management platform, enterprises will find themselves undergoing the transition from traditional "paper handbooks and paper documents" to the new electronic mode of  "e-accounts and online transmission of data for verification". They will sign an "online monitoring memorandum" with Suzhou customs and switch to a "fully transparent" mode of operation. Depending on their degree of standardised management, they may also take advantage of customs facilitation measures such as centralised record filing, prompt filing of tax returns and payment of overdue tax on a monthly basis, and follow-up management that replaces verification with checkups. At present, more than 10 enterprises have started using this regional informatisation management platform. Suzhou customs plans to add another 50 enterprises under its jurisdiction to this platform before the end of this year to bring its coverage to 50% of the amount of processing trade handled.
