THE largest road logistics facility in China, entailing an investment of CNY1 billion (US$146.4 million), has been built up in eastern China city Suzhou, Xinhua reported.
Covering 39.2 hectares, the facility, named Suzhou Chuanhua Logistics Base, operates a network of 185 less-than-container-load (LCL) routes with a cargo transportation capacity of 18 million tonnes. It can accommodate as much as 800 logistics operators. There is estimated to be about 2,000 to 3,000 vehicles using the road every day since it opened.
The facility will offer LCL, road-water intermodal, warehousing, distribution and logistics information services. More than 30,000 manufacturers and traders in Suzhou and the neighbouring regions will benefit from the new facility, which is said to be able to help them cut down 40 per cent's cost.
