| Introduction |
Wuxi New District (Wuxi ND) is located in the suburban part of Wuxi, approximately 120 km to Shanghai. It was formerly known as Wuxi High-tech Industrial Development Zone, a state-level development zone approved by the State Council in 1992.
The Shanghai-Beijing Railway and the Xincheng Railway intersect in Wuxi ND. The Shanghai-Beijing Express Railway, which is currently under construction, will pass to the northeast of Wuxi ND. When the railway is finished in 2010, it will take approximately thirty minutes to get from Wuxi ND to Shanghai and four and a half hours to get from Wuxi ND to Beijing.
Wuxi Airport, located within the district, operates daily flights to Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangzhou and other major cities. Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Nanjing Lukou International Airport are all located within a two-hour drive of Wuxi.
The Beijing-Shanghai Highway, the Tongjiang-Sanya Highway and the Shanghai-Chengdu Highway all intersect in Wuxi, while the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, the Zhejiang-Shanghai-Jiangsu Expressway,
State Highway 312 and State Highway 104 run directly across the city. Shanghai Port is just 165 km away from Wuxi; Jiangyin Port, however, is even closer at a mere 38 km away. |
