A Hong Kong company specialising in three-dimensional display technology has branched into an entirely new line of its business, thanks to the HKTDC's Business Matching service.
Sun Ruby 3D Technology is a market leader in 3D media digital display, distributing for international brands such as Philips and Sony. But it has now embarked on a new project, in partnership with a Japanese firm that has developed a 3D stereoscopic video shooting and display package. The Japanese technology is targeting the medical and architectural fields.
Sun Ruby founder Eric Wan said it was the first time he had heard of such technology being applied for use in surgery and construction projects. "I was amazed by the quality of images our partner can reproduce," he added. "HKTDC Business Matching specialists introduced me to our Japanese partner," said Mr Wan. "And I was awarded the sole distributorship of this sophisticated package to explore the Hong Kong and Chinese mainland markets."

Mr Wan explained that HKTDC Business Matching laid the groundwork for the business partnership, providing both sides with the necessary background information before a face-to-face meeting. "We were able to go straight down to business on our first meeting in Tokyo," he said.
Sun Ruby also has plans to expand into the retail business by launching multi-functional 3D display devices for home use. But for the moment, Mr Wan is very much focused on his unexpected new business opportunity. "It was such a welcome surprise that HKTDC brought me this niche market. I hope that we can capitalise on our technology capability to make the professional segment one of the main streams of Sun Ruby's business. It will be very challenging, but highly profitable."
