Mr Benjamin Chau

Benjamin Chau Kai-Leung is a Deputy Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC),the statutory organisation responsible for promoting Hong Kong's external trade.

Mr Chau was a banker before joining the HKTDC in 1984. In a career spanning more than 25 years, he has been involved in a great variety of trade promotion activities, specialising in China trade promotion. He worked in the HKTDC's Beijing and Shanghai branch offices from 1986 to 1988, and has organised numerous Hong Kong pavilions and exhibitions on the Chinese mainland.

Mr Chau has led the HKTDC’s Exhibitions and Exhibition Services divisions since 1997, building the HKTDC’s fair portfolio to more than 30 annual exhibitions. Under his leadership, it forms 10 largest marketplaces of their kind in Asia, with four being the largest marketplaces in the world.

In 2004, Mr Chau was also appointed to head the HKTDC’s Trade Publications Department, which publishes more than 20 print and online product magazines and industry supplements a year. In 2006, the E-Commerce Department was added to his portfolio, to better integrate the HKTDC’s exhibitions, publications and online marketplace.

From 2007 to 2009, Mr Chau oversaw both the Product Promotion and Service Promotion Divisions, spearheading the HKTDC’s manufacturing and service industries’ promotions on the mainland and overseas. The extensive programme includes more than 200 projects a year designed to enhance Hong Kong's role as Asia's leading sourcing centre and to help Hong Kong companies tap into business opportunities around the world. During this period, Mr Chau also oversaw the HKTDC’s Design Gallery. With three retail outlets in Hong Kong and numerous branches on the Chinese mainland, Design Gallery promotes Hong Kong designers and creative excellence in product design.

Mr Chau assumed the office of Deputy Executive Director on 4 January 2010. He has been elected as a member of the UFI Board of Directors since November 2011.

Mr So was born in 1958. He was appointed Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the fourth term Government of the HKSAR on 28 June 2012. The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau is responsible for various policy matters including Hong Kong's external commercial relations, inward investment promotion, intellectual property protection, industry and business support, tourism, consumer protection, competition, telecommunications, broadcasting, film-related issues and creative industries etc.

Mr So joined the third term Government of the HKSAR on 1 June 2008 as Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, and was appointed Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development on 28 June 2011.

Before joining the Government, Mr So was a practicing solicitor. He previously served as the Vice-chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong; Board Member of Hong Kong Hospital Authority; Council Member of Lingnan University; Member of Commission on Strategic Development; and member of the District Council of Wong Tai Sin District.

Graduated from Beijing Foreign Language Institute (Beijing Foreign Studies University) with B.A.s of French language and literature as well as international cultural exchange, and acquired MPA Master’s Degrees from China National School of Administration and Peking University. He served as a director in the Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China from 2002 to 2006, and worked in Chinese Embassy in Senegal, Chinese mission to UNESCO and the Consulate-General of The People's Republic Of China in Sydney.

Since 2015, he acted as the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China.

Mr. Lambeek has more than 20 years of leadership and management experiences in sales, marketing and category management. Prior to joining Riovio, he worked at the Fox International Channels, which belongs to 21st Century Fox, and was in charge of the marketing operations in the Asia-Pacific Region of different channels including Fox Sports, Movie Channel and National Geographic Channel. Before this, Mr. Lambeek was the Chief Executive Officer of Aora, a newly established operating company in India for pay television.

Born in 1963, after graduating from Kokugakuin University, he joined BANDAI group in 1986.

He has been in charge of various game and entertainment businesses including videogame software, arcade machine, app and movie. His most significant contribution to BANDAI NAMCO group is to build a foundation of online and social network game businesses. As the Chief PAC-MAN Officer, he is now trying to bring the globally well-known iconic character into a next stage with mixture of traditional BANDAI NAMCO’s media-mix method and digital centric branding approach.

Enjoys going around tropical islands in his free time. Favourite writers are Jiro Asada and Kageo Tamiyama. His motto is “The only one truth is that there are more truths than one”.

Don has more than two decades of media and digital experience, including 16 years overseeing digital sales, marketing and communications for leading publishers, platforms and agencies in Asia-Pacific.

Prior to joining the YouTube APAC Kids & Learning Partnerships team, Don served as Regional Managing Director of global creative agency We Are Social. Don also previously served as Senior Vice-President, Regional Strategic Digital Integration for FleishmanHillard, and was responsible for driving the firm’s digital and social media growth initiatives across 10 markets and 16 offices.

He also led interactive sales solutions for Turner Entertainment Networks Asia (TENA), where he helped to grow regional digital advertising revenues four-fold in less than 18 months and launched a multi-year sponsorship deal with Hewlett-Packard with Toon Creator, a unique crowdsourced kids’ content initiative on Cartoon Network.

Don later assumed the role of sales and marketing director for CNNGo, CNN’s Asia-focused travel portal, and relocated to Singapore in 2012 as director of integrated ad sales for ESPN Star Sports, Asia’s leading sports network, where he was responsible for driving integrated programmes across ESPN’s online, mobile, social and broadband network platforms, while instrumenting the channel’s first branded content initiative Shell Freedom Riders.

In Sept 2015, Don co-founded the AsiaVR Association, a non-profit group focused on promoting dialogue, debate, collaboration and investment in this rapidly evolving area of technology innovation. Don is also a co-founder and former chairman of the Asia Content Marketing Association.

A native Canadian, Don holds an MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management in Sydney, as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ryerson University in Toronto and new media certification from the Canadian Film Centre.

Charles M. Riotto is President and CEO of the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA), the world’s leading trade group for licensing professionals, with over 1,100 member companies worldwide. LIMA is recognised globally as the authoritative voice of the licensing industry.

Since 1997, Riotto has been in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Association. He oversees all LIMA programming around the world, serves as an industry spokesperson to the trade and consumer media, and manages LIMA’s relationships with global trade show organisers in licensing and related industries. He is also responsible for interacting with the Board of Directors, which is represented by some of the world’s largest corporations, entertainment studios and sports leagues.

Under Riotto’s leadership, LIMA’s global footprint has expanded significantly, with international membership growth of more than 90 percent. He has established LIMA offices in London, Munich, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Mexico City, as well as representation in five additional countries.

Riotto’s global plan for growing the industry includes a far-ranging programme of educational conferences, seminars and webinars under the LIMA umbrella or through strategic partnerships. This has been instrumental in the industry’s unprecedented recent growth. In 2015, revenues from the sales of licensed merchandise reached an estimated US$137.9 billion at retail in the United States, and approximately US$251.7 billion worldwide, an annual global growth rate of 4.2%. Additional new programmes are planned for Asia, Latin America and Europe in 2017.

Prior to joining LIMA in 1997, Riotto served as Executive Director of the International Recording Media Association and previously as Marketing Director and Executive Director of the Toy Manufacturers of America, Inc. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Society of Association Executives.

Ron Johnson is Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN). In his role, Johnson oversees Viacom’s consumer products business outside the U.S. across retail, operations, creative development, licensing, recreations, promotions and marketing. He is also responsible for driving the strategic vision for VIMN’s consumer products business, developing and maintaining key partner and client relationships, delivering innovative marketing solutions around hit brands and properties, including MTV, Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, Comedy Central’s South Park, and ensuring the highest quality product offering.

Johnson first joined Viacom in 2010 as Senior Vice President, Walmart Retail Development for NVCP, managing the development of the worldwide Nickelodeon retail business at Walmart around all NVCP properties. Johnson’s role quickly expanded to leading NVCP’s global retail business for all retail accounts, as well as managing all e-commerce and seasonal licensing. He established strong relationships with key U.S. retailers, including Walmart, Target, Amazon and Toys “R” Us, and executed several successful retail marketing partnerships around key franchises, such as Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants. He also led the strategy and implementation of a new retail analytics organisation to enable real-time data analysis, and opened up new classes and channels of trade for Nickelodeon consumer products.

Prior to joining Nickelodeon, Johnson was Vice President/General Manager of the Global Walmart Team at Disney. Before Disney, Johnson was President and CEO of Classic Foods, LLP and was with Procter & Gamble Distributing Company.

Leigh Anne Brodsky serves as Executive Vice President, Discovery Global Enterprises overseeing consumer products, location-based entertainment and programme sales worldwide. She is responsible for fuelling the overall Discovery brand by igniting the growth of super fans with authentic experiences; developing strong product advocates and expanding the company’s content and brand footprint across the world.

Brodsky joined Discovery in May of 2016 from Peanuts Worldwide and Iconix Entertainment, a joint venture with the family of Charles M. Schulz, where she served as Managing Director. In this role, she oversaw the company’s global entertainment business, built the largest retail footprint for the Peanuts property and expanded the Iconix Entertainment division’s global portfolio.

Prior to Peanuts Worldwide and Iconix Entertainment, she served as President of Nickelodeon Consumer Products, overseeing parent company Viacom’s global licensing and merchandising business from 1999 to 2011, which included major brands like SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Blue’s Clues, Comedy Central’s South Park, and MTV’s Jersey Shore. Brodsky has also held senior executive positions at Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video (Saturday Night Live), Little Golden Books and Scripps Howard.

In 2011, Brodsky was selected for induction into the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association’s (LIMA) Hall of Fame. This honor has been reserved for only 43 individuals including Walt Disney, George Lucas and Jim Henson. She is also a twice-elected member of the LIMA Board of Directors, the licensing industry’s governing body, where she serves on its charity fund-raising committee.

Brodsky received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. She currently resides in New York with her husband.

Based in London, Dan Amos is the global head of Beanstalk’s digital entertainment division, Tinderbox. Dan oversees the Tinderbox global team, developing and executing strategic licensing plans for both established and emerging digital entertainment IP. Tinderbox represents some of the world’s most renowned videogame IP including several Microsoft Studios’ franchises such as Halo, Forza Motorsport and the Xbox brand itself.

Dan joined Beanstalk’s Brand Management team in 2007 and has since assisted in developing the agency’s expertise in the toys and collectibles, as well as interactive gaming categories. In June 2013, Tinderbox was developed to address the market need of extending digital properties to complementary categories at retail. Based on his extensive knowledge in this space, Dan was appointed to oversee this initiative. He has been instrumental in both the creation and launch of Tinderbox, growing its client portfolio to include some of the world’s fastest growing and iconic digital entertainment brands, including 13 Microsoft owned IP.

Supported by Beanstalk’s Tinderbox division, the Microsoft owned franchise Halo has seen programme development across Europe, and globally through new categories. Leveraging Halo’s 15 years as a major videogame entertainment franchise and supporting the Microsoft team, Dan has crafted a brand development strategy that has aided in increased European visibility as well as complementary direct to retail executions.

Prior to joining Beanstalk, Dan worked in the product design and development department for manufacturers who held licenses for iconic properties, such as Star Wars, Marvel and Disney.

A regular contributor to the licensing industry press, Dan has written articles on the subject of digital entertainment as well as presenting on the subject at Hong Kong, Las Vegas and London’s Licensing Conferences. Dan’s interests include music and art; he studied illustration at The Kent Institute of Art and Design.

Pinky David, currently the Asia Pacific VP of 20th Century Fox Consumer Products based in the regional headquarters in Singapore, oversees all aspects of Licensing and Merchandising sales and operations in the region, whilst reporting into head office in Los Angeles. She is responsible for managing all licensing agents in North Asia, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and India. One of her major accomplishments as regional head, is being one of the key proponents to the establishment of the Simpsons Store in China, being the first retail outlet in the world.

She was formerly the Regional Licensing Sales Director of Discovery Enterprises International, the licensing arm of Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific. Based in Singapore, David is responsible for driving all aspects of Discovery’s consumer products and home entertainment strategies in the region, with an aim to develop all meaningful brand extensions in the retail market place and ultimately further enhance brand equity with the network audience and consumers. She was responsible for launching and managing the successful Discovery Expedition licensed retail stores in Korea and China, and the award winning Discovery Channel Magazine in the Asia Pacific region.

David came to Discovery from Turner Broadcasting Asia Pacific in Hong Kong where she worked as the regional Promotions Licensing Director for Cartoon Network. Prior to this, she was Managing Director of Promotional Partners Worldwide in the Philippines and was formerly the Communications Director of the Shangri-La Hotels in Manila.

David holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, majored in Broadcast Communications, from the College of Mass Communications in the University of the Philippines. She is a recipient of the Philippine Marketing Association’s Agora Award for Asia Pacific Marketing Excellence and was conferred an honorary certification by the Asia Pacific Marketing Federation.

In her new role with LIMA, Regan is responsible for expanding membership worldwide broadening LIMA’s reach and deepening business to business connections through the power of brand licensing.

Regan joined LIMA from Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organisation responsible for Sesame Street where she served as Senior Vice President and General Manager, International Media Business. In this role, she oversaw the Workshop’s international content distribution, licensing, digital and location based entertainment businesses. She oversaw the development and expansion of Sesame Street English, Sesame Workshop’s global English language learning franchise. Under her leadership, Sesame Workshop opened the first office in China.

Prior to that, as SVP and GM of Global Consumer Products, Regan oversaw the global consumer products retail business across all major categories of licensed goods, such as toys, apparel, home furnishings, food and nutrition, stationery and gifts including all related product development.

Regan has also served as Vice President and GM of Global Consumer Products, and Vice President of International Licensing and New Business Development. In this capacity, Regan oversaw new business development for such brands as Sesame Street, Pinky Dinky Doo and Dragon Tales, as well as the Workshop’s theme park initiatives. She expanded licensing activities and developed new business initiatives for Greater China and Japan.

Prior to joining the Workshop in 1999, Regan held executive positions with Scholastic Entertainment and MTV Networks.

Regan is a fellow of the US-Japan Foundation Leadership programme. In 2013 she received the Woman of Achievement Award from K.I.D.S. Kids in Distressed Situations and in 2009 was named to the list of 100 Top Irish Leaders in business. Regan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She serves on the Advisory Board of One Animation, and is Co-Chair of the Financial Women’s Association (FWA) Executive Leaders committee.

Neal Rudge has been in the licensing business for more than twenty years and has spent most of that time in Asia.

Currently, he is a partner at Pacific Licensing Studio Pte. Ltd, an award-winning consumer products and brand licensing agency with offices across the Greater China & Southeast Asia region.

Neal started in the consumer products licensing business in Los Angeles at Hanna Barbara in the early 90s followed by Universal Studios, running its licensing programmes in Asia and Latin America.

In 2000, Neal joined Warner Bros. Consumer Products, relocated to Singapore and commenced building the Southeast Asia business from a very small base by first putting in place an exemplary team, followed by strong licensee and retailer relations throughout the region. Neal and his team continued to service the Warner Bros. account as part of an agency commencing 2005 and also worked on several sports franchises, including FIFA World Cup 2010, PGA Tour, and FIBA (Federation internationale de Basketball) .

In 2010, Neal, together with his partners formed Pacific Licensing Studio Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, and carried forward numerous clients, including their “tentpole” client, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and FIFA, as well as forging new relationships with other blue chip licensors such as Rovio Entertainment, DreamWorks Animation, Cartoon Network, tokidoki and Hurlingham Polo Association.

In 2014 Pacific Licensing Studio won the Best Agency award from LIMA from amongst its Asia Licensing Awards, and has won numerous plaudits for its upstream and downstream clients each and every year since.

In 2016 Neal joined LIMA’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Nick Chan MH joined the Council of the Law Society of Hong Kong in 2014. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Compliance and Public Policy Committee; and as Vice Chairman of Belt and Road Committee and Technology Committee.

Mr. Chan is a partner of Squire Patton Boggs heading the TMT Asia Pacific practice. The firm is a top ten most global law firm with 46 offices in 21 countries. Nick is an experienced private equity/venture capital, merger and acquisition, commercial and compliance, TMT, employment, competition and regulatory lawyer with a computer science degree and a regional practice covering 22 countries. He focuses on the telecommunications, broadcasting, information and emerging technologies, healthcare, aviation, energy, real estate, entertainment, advertising, logistics, global sourcing, petroleum and related industries.

Admitted to practise as a Solicitor in Hong Kong (1999) and England & Wales (2007) (non-practising), Mr. Chan also acts as the honorary legal adviser to charities and NGOs relating to information technology, entrepreneurship and creativity including the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association (HKISPA), Hong Kong Information Technology Federation (HKITF) and International Federation of Creativity and Technology (IFOCAT). He also serves as chairman, member and adjudicator in various statutory appeal boards, boards, panels, tribunals and university committees. Before joining Oriental DreamWorks, PC worked at Walt Disney for 7 years, where he was responsible for the toy and consumer electronics-licensing business. Prior to Disney, PC spent 10 years working at Philips and Siemens, where he held a senior position in global product marketing.
