Mountain & Water

[Urbanovation]

The installation harnesses the machine learning technology, GAN (Generative Adversarial Network), to study over thousands of iconic Chinese landscape paintings from Song Dynasty (i.e. the beginning of the Chinese landscape painting) to now. An audience can co-create an A.I. created landscape painting by as simple as drawing lines, the machine will generate the color/ texture/shape according to the input from the audience together with the GAN algorithm. All inputs from the audience will be cumulated & shown on the same canvas, and presented as a new layer. And at the same time, all 2D inputs will transform into a 3D object in real time. Audience can explore & interact with the TIME & SPACE of this co-created landscape painting in real time.

In this work, we are studying how technology, especially A.I., changes the process of creating art, as well as how art reflecting the different value of different eras, e.g. from individual to crowd creation. If the traditional Chinese landscape painting is a personal expression, a “Mind Landscape” of the artist’s heart & mind; then MOUNTAIN & WATER is an insight of our collective subconsciousness now in the form of big data visualization!

“THE WAVE” SERIES is Victor Wong’s new mix-media art series that carry an art therapy message. It was inspired by the movement of rough water.

“TROUBLE WATER” is a LED Wave Bench. It is a 3D mapping graphics on LED. It invites audiences to sit on to experience the moments that symbolizing difficulties. It implies a deeper meaning that no matter how rough the situation is, as long as we stay calm and patient to resolve it, bad things will be gone soon…This is what we call "Art Therapy".

Who moved my signboard?

[Hong Kong Creative Force]

The unique vibrant scene created by dense, colourful signboards on the streets is considered as one distinctive characteristic of Hong Kong. Signboards, despite its primary purpose of commercial promotion, contribute to a unique Hong Kong cityscape that is co-created by different business owners, artists and craftsmen, and a culture that encompasses various historical and artistic values.

@streetsignhk will be showing 3 sets of rescued signboards, telling the stories behind the signboards and how they were rescued. Conservation work of signboards will also be introduced, from promotion and education on social media, reaching out to signboard owner to explore preservation possibility, to rescuing signboards that are inevitably demolished. On the other hand, the exhibits would demonstrate the uniqueness of Hong Kong signboards, including the calligraphy, different signboard materials and neon light craft.

Hong Kong Nostalgia: Hand-written Minibus Sign

[Hong Kong Creative Force]

Minibus signs reflect the changing times and carry an unique cultural meaning in Hong Kong. These hand-painted acrylic signs not only clarify the fares and destinations of minibuses, but also lead the way for countless passengers over all these years.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council invited Mr. Mak Kam-sang, the last writer of minibus signs in Hong Kong to create an art installation made up of multiple calligraphy minibus signs that he has written. It aims to reveal the “red minibus culture” of Hong Kong and invite the visitors to examine the handwritten minibus signs from a new perspective, in order to sustain and pass on this traditional craftsmanship.

PLASHARK

[Hong Kong Creative Force]

&dear & Kerry Engagement Jigsaw

Humans and animals intertwined with each other since tens of thousands of years ago. Mankind survived by utilizing natural resources while taking care of the well-being of mother nature. However, the emergence of single-use plastics in the recent centuries brought toxic to this life cycle. The production, use and improper disposal of plastics have led to devastating ocean pollution and disruption of the food chain.

The artwork PLASHARK illustrates the symbiotic relationship between human and marine life. Built by our Kerry Group Jigsaw volunteers and local artist &dear, the two hammerhead sharks were made of 1,874 recycled plastic bottles, 3,258 bottle caps and 93 wooden wine cases. We wish everyone will evaluate their daily habits, treasure and respect the nature.

The Silver Tree

The silver tree

A tree with binding
A resin circled all around it
A red spirit handing up high
.
The wood is wrapped with rope, bind.
The tree is wrapped up with resin, symbiotic.
.
A web of resin, from root to trunk, goes all the way up towards the top.
A sliver of tree, which stands from the ground, standing there and up for resin.
.
Constraint or symbiotic,
Only depends on your thought at the moment
.
Art is life
