Since HKIB's inception in 1988, a number of internationally accredited state-of-the-art facilities were built with the grants from the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Innovation & Technology Commission, HKSAR. We are positioned as a local supporting infrastructure of foster the development of biotechnology and Chinese Medicine. Our Biologic Unit offers both upstream research and downstream production service that include routine molecular biology work at DNA level down to pilot protein (or other biomolecules) production in different bioreactors, purification steps in cleanroom environment. The facility is sufficient for the production of clinical grade biopharmaceuticals for Phase I & II clinical trials. The Incubator Centre enables biotech start-ups companies to develop their businesses with the common equipment and facilities with reduced capital investment and thus lowered their initial costs. The GMP consultation unit (formerly known as Pharmaceutical Technology Centre) has successful helped pharmaceutical manufacturers to achieve GMP manufacturing through a series of training program and dedicated consultation. While all manufacturers have achieved GMP accreditation from the Department of Health by 2003, the Unit continues to support these manufacturers as well as other industrial sectors such as manufacturers of Traditional Chinese Medicine and hospital departments who needs GMP or quality management upgrades. Being a GMP accredited TCM manufacturing facility by health authority of Australia and Hong Kong, our contract manufacturing service is recognized by a line of popular over-the-counter herbal products with our quality assurance label being on the boxes. HKIB is also produced our own products under the tradename "LifeArt".
