This is our first time participating in the HKTDC Food Expo. The HKTDC Food Expo enables us to meet different types of professional buyers efficiently.
We have connected with potential buyers from the trading, retail, catering and e-commerce sectors. We aim to connect with a wholesale distributor and a supermarket channel partner, with a target cooperation value of RMB10 million.
By leveraging HKTDC’s international business network and Hong Kong’s connectivity with global markets, we hope to further expand into Europe and the US and bring more quality Henan agricultural products to overseas markets.
This year, Hualien County Government is bringing nine selected local producers to Hong Kong, participating in both Food Expo’s B2C marketplace and Food Expo PRO’s B2B platform.
The response has been encouraging on both fronts. On the B2B side, we have received potential business enquiries, including buyers from Hong Kong, Japan and other Asian markets.
The B2C fair provides equally valuable market feedback. Sales reached around HK$20,000 by the end of the first day of the event, and several products have already sold through a substantial portion of the stock originally prepared for the five-day fair.
B2C builds awareness and validates consumer demand, while B2B turns that interest into potential distribution and business partnerships. HKTDC gives us a comprehensive pathway to connect local agriculture with international buyers.
Participating in the Food Expo for the first time at the Gourmet Zone, we organized Hong Kong’s first chewy treats themed market.
Buyer and visitor response has been overwhelming, with foot traffic exceeding expectations as vendors worked tirelessly from morning till evening. Based on preliminary footfall and sales performance, the participating vendors are extremely satisfied. We aim to achieve our sales target of HK$1 million to HK$1.4 million across the 12 participating shops over the five-day event.
Beyond immediate sales, the Expo served as a vital platform for brand visibility and collaboration. During the event, we received numerous inquiries from prospective partners such as property landlords.
The Expo's immense traffic and international exposure significantly boosted vendor confidence, opening doors for expanded market opportunities well beyond the fair.
“Local Fresh” brings certified local products under one recognisable identity. Products must meet relevant production requirements and undergo third-party certification by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency, giving consumers greater confidence in their quality and local provenance.
Food Expo provides a particularly effective platform for launching the brand to consumers because of its strong public traffic and direct engagement. The response has been very encouraging.
Based on product sales volume, the booths have already served at least 3,000 to 4,000 customer transactions or product purchases, while overall sales volume is estimated to be around 5% to 10% higher than last year.
Food Expo is more than a sales platform, it provides an important opportunity to connect local farmers and fish farmers directly with consumers. By strengthening public awareness and demand, the platform can also help create more market opportunities for local producers and support the long-term development of Hong Kong’s agricultural and fisheries industries.
This year, Tai Po Chun Hing introduces Halal-certified product range, including beef tendon balls and cuttlefish balls, to a wider audience.
The public response to our Halal range has also been very encouraging. Halal consumers have responded particularly positively to our cuttlefish balls. Our tasting queue has remained busy throughout the day, the strong footfall has translated into tangible results. On 14 August alone, we recorded more than 1,000 transactions, while business on the first day was approximately 20% higher than the first day last year.
For Tai Po Chun Hing, HKTDC’s Food Expo has evolved alongside the brand. It provides an important stage for a home-grown SME to launch new products, engage consumers and build its brand.
