The southwestern-facing steep slope with an incline of up to 55% is the highest point in the village and is named after the old castle, the ancestral seat of the House of Castell. Documents show that the Schlossberg has been planted with vines since 1266, which are rooted in slate-gravelly gypsum keuper. The gypsum keuper here is characterized by a high alabaster content. The raw soil, with only a very thin layer of humus-rich topsoil, forces the vines in this VDP.GROSSEN LAGE to drive their roots down into the primary rock, the myophoria and estheria layers. This has a decisive influence on the wines and makes the minerality of the soil palatable. The long-lasting evening sun and favorable westerly winds ensure aromatic, balanced, and long-lasting Silvaner wines.
