Governments worldwide, including Hong Kong SAR and Mainland Chinese officials have taken the opportunity to integrate green and sustainable policies into their economic recovery plans. With strong government participation, Eco Expo Asia serves as an ideal platform and gateway into the developing green market in Hong Kong and the wider Greater Bay Area.</strong> <br /><br /><div>Under the new theme ‘Promoting green recovery for carbon neutrality’ the show will delve into the importance of incorporating green policies to support environmental protection and economic recovery after the pandemic. Following the online edition in 2020, the 16<sup>th</sup> Eco Expo Asia will run from 27 – 30 October 2021 and will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.</div><div> </div><div>Commenting on the developing market and changes over the past year, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt HK Ltd, Ms Judy Cheung, said: “In recent months amid the pandemic, it has been really encouraging to see many governments implement new green policies and set clear-cut targets for sustainable goals and carbon neutrality. And with strong government backing, the fair will provide extensive B2B and B2G opportunities for a diverse range of green markets.”</div><div><strong> </strong></div><div><strong>Hong Kong environmental targets create potential for green solutions</strong></div><div><strong> </strong></div><div>Earlier this year, the Hong Kong SAR Government revealed new environmental blueprints including the first roadmap for the popularisation of electric vehicles, which sets out the timeline for eliminating the new sales of conventional fuel-powered private cars by 2035. The waste blueprint advocates waste reduction, resources circulation and the elimination of landfills to help construct a circular economy, create jobs in the green sector and support decarbonisation. An updated Clean Air Plan for Hong Kong will also soon be released, setting out long-term targets to further improve air quality in the city.</div><div><br />In order to achieve the goals laid out in these blueprints, innovative carbon-reducing technologies across a wide span of industries will need to be explored and introduced. At Eco Expo Asia, exhibitors can capitalise on the opportunities on offer and showcase their green solutions and products for an array of sectors including waste management, green transport, green finance, recycling, renewable energy, air quality and more.</div><div> </div><div><strong>Opportunities await in China’s Greater Bay Area</strong></div><div> </div><div>Hong Kong offers the ideal location for companies to enter the evolving Greater Bay Area (GBA) market – a Mainland Chinese government initiative to develop an integrated economic hub by linking nine major cities of South China’s Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macau. Mainland China’s 14<sup>th</sup> Five-Year Plan has emphasised the development of green finance and a low-carbon economy, with a target to reach carbon neutrality by 2060. In particular, the plan focuses on the implementation of renewable energy and the active promotion for smart energy. Hong Kong has long been renowned as a bridge connecting Mainland China with the rest of the world, making it an easy access point for exhibitors to tap into the growing Greater Bay Area’s eco market.</div><div><strong> </strong></div><div><strong>Generous subsidy scheme for exhibitors available</strong></div><div><strong> </strong></div><div>To further assist companies in exploring markets and business opportunities through Hong Kong’s trade platforms, the Hong Kong SAR Government has enhanced the Convention and Exhibition Industry Subsidy Scheme. Participating companies – local or overseas, large or small – of exhibitions organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council can enjoy a 50% subsidy off the participation fee. The subsidy is subject to a cap of HKD 10,000 (USD 1,282) per 9sqm booth and a maximum of HKD 100,000 (USD 12,820) per fair.</div><div><strong> </strong></div><div>Eco Expo Asia 2021 will be held from 27 – 30 October at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
