Kiyomizu-yaki Blue & White Tea Set
This set includes a teapot with a back handle, a cooling bowl and five small cups. It is a rare complete tea set.
The author is Kanzan Denshichi, a representative potter of Kiyomizu-yaki (Kyoto-yaki), who was active in the Meiji period.
Kanzan Denshichi used blue and white brushwork to imitate Chinese Ming and Qing ceramics; the long-tailed phoenix pattern, the blue and white color is uniform, and the brushstrokes are dense.
The bottom of the cup is signed "Kanzan Kato", which is the signature used by Kanzan in his early years. It is estimated that this set of teaware should have a history of more than one hundred years, made in the Meiji period or earlier.
