The Hong Kong Container Terminal Operators Association Limited (HKCTOA) was established in 1999 by the container terminal operators of Kwai Tsing Port, Hong Kong. Its mission is to promote and enhance Hong Kong’s position as an international container transportation hub. The Association aims at increasing the competitiveness of Hong Kong Port and making positive contributions to the areas of public interest such as transportation, infrastructure and environment.
The members of the HKCTOA include: Asia Container Terminals Limited, COSCO-HIT Terminals (Hong Kong) Limited, Goodman DP World, Hongkong International Terminals Limited and Modern Terminals Limited.
The current Chairman of the Association is Ms. Jessie Chung, a veteran in port management and former Director and General Manager of River Trade Terminal.
Altogether, there are 24 container berths in 9 terminals, with a total quay length of 7,694 metres and terminal area of 279 hectares, providing an estimated capacity of over 20 million TEUs. The water depth of the approaching channel is 17.5 metres. In 2015, Kwai Tsing Port handled 15.57 million TEUs, close to 80% of the total container throughput of Hong Kong.
Asia Container Terminals Limited (ACT) is located at Terminal 8 West in Hong Kong's Kwai Tsing Port. It is a joint venture of COSCO SHIPPING Ports (formerly known as COSCO Pacific) and Hutchison Port Holdings Trust. The terminal has two berths with a quay length of 740 meters and a depth alongside of 15.5 meters with a total area of 29 hectares. Its daily operations are managed by COSCO-HIT Terminals (Hong Kong) Limited (CHT).
ACT is adjacent to CHT and together they have a combined 1,380-meter contiguous berth. It enhances the overall operational flexibility and efficiency particularly when handling several mega-vessels simultaneously.
COSCO-HIT Terminals (Hong Kong) Limited (CHT), which COSCO SHIPPING Ports (formerly known as COSCO Pacific) and Hutchison Port Holdings Trust each hold 50 per cent stake, is located at Terminal 8 East in Hong Kong's Kwai Tsing Port. The company manages two berths with a quay length of 640 meters and a depth alongside of 15.5 meters. It also operates berth frontage of 448 meters for barges.
CHT has installed several advanced communications and computer technology systems to enhance performance and provide a high level of service. These include Operations Monitoring System, Ship Planning System, Tractor-Paging Systems and Pre-Advice / Auto-Gate System.
CHT collaborates with Hongkong International Terminals Limited, and other neighbouring terminal operators to maximize operational efficiency and help maintain Hong Kong's status as one of the world's busiest container ports.
Container Terminal 3 (CT3) has been operating since 1973, the facility has historically been one of the most productive terminals in Hong Kong.
CT3 excels in technological innovation and is providing quality services to support Hong Kong port and its customers. The terminal's facilities are complimented by the ATL Logistics Centre, the world's first and largest intelligent multi-storey drive-in cargo logistics centre.
Hongkong International Terminals Limited (HIT) is a member of Hutchison Port Holdings Trust, the world's first container port business trust, which is listed in Singapore.
